Forty years ago, in 1977, a strange radio signal was recorded, after seeing which the scientist signed next to "Wow", expressing his delight at what he saw, this word later became the name of the radio signal.
Unfortunately for astrophysicists, the signal was no longer recorded, and many scientists tried to decipher the signal. Apart from confirming that the signal source is indeed extraterrestrial in nature and comes from the constellation Sagittarius, there have been no significant advances in the study. However, a former employee of the US Department of Defense, who moved to work at one of the universities, treated this signal as a detective investigation.
He picked up astronomical data for the year when the strange radio signal was recorded, and also worked through the data relating to that section of space, obtained later. He was able to discover that two comets discovered only after 2006 with the names 266P / Christensen and 335P / Gibbs that year crossed exactly that part of space. from where the signal was recorded. The structure of both comets suggests the possibility of emitting a natural radio signal of hydrogen.
It won't be until 2018 when they return to the constellation Sagittarius to check if these comets are the source of the strange radio signal.
