In China, doctors removed a magnetic bead bracelet from a girl's stomach. The Daily Mail drew attention to the video with footage from the hospital. A 2-year-old child from Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region swallowed 18 beads one by one in front of his mother on Thursday, March 14. At first, the woman thought that her daughter was hiding them in her mouth, and as soon as she realized what was happening, she tried to get the beads on her own.
She didn't succeed, and the Chinese woman went to the hospital. Dr. Li Ruifeng noted that upon arrival the girl did not complain of pain or vomit. The child was x-rayed and found that all the beads were stuck together to form a bracelet. Moreover, some of them joined through the wall of the stomach, which is why ulcers were formed. The doctors removed the beads with an endoscope, and the procedure took 15 minutes.
Lee added that the girl was lucky as the beads did not reach the intestines, otherwise the consequences of the incident could be much more serious. The doctor urged parents not to buy such toys for small children. In July 2018, a five-year-old Australian child was reported to have swallowed 30 fridge magnets. The relatives did not seek help right away, so the magnets reached the intestines and formed 12 holes in it. The doctors sewed them up, but part of the organ had to be removed.
