For this, dangerous areas were equipped with additional cameras and sensors, and they also launched an intelligent crime prediction program, which, despite the fact that it entered the service quite recently, has already proved itself well.
Engadget reports that the use of a smart algorithm has significantly reduced the number of violent crimes committed in various parts of the city. So, in the seventh area of Chicago, the number of shootings compared with last year decreased by 40 percent, while the number of murders fell by 33 percent. Programs operating in the other three districts are doing worse, but there has also been a positive shift - shootings and killings have decreased on average by 25 percent, which is also encouraging.
The crime prediction algorithms used by the Chicago police take many factors into account by analyzing social, economic and even weather information. In addition, data collected from surveillance cameras are used. Other parameters are taken into account, but the AI uses other means at its disposal, regularly checking the list of criminals and suspects. In addition, the system for determining shots is also involved in the work.
About $ 1 million was spent on launching the system at the beginning of the year, and it seems that the investments are fully justified.
