“He glows with happiness,” we say about a positive, happy with himself and those around him, a person enjoying life. Psychics do see the "happy" glow of his aura. Such a vision is not available to ordinary people, and we use this phrase as a metaphor.
But it turns out that you can glow in the literal, not figurative sense. Scientists have recorded many such cases. Unfortunately, usually this phenomenon is associated with some kind of disease. But there are also exceptions to the rule.
Firefly man
In 1913, in the Taganrog circus, the number of Nikolai Evdokimenko, who performed under the pseudonym Firefly Man, was especially popular. He was a hereditary circus acrobat, spent almost 20 years in the circus arena.
But one day a misfortune happened: at a rehearsal, Nikolai jumped unsuccessfully and broke his leg. The fracture was very difficult, the recovery was slow, and although the leg healed over time, the artist did not succeed in returning to its previous conditions, in particular jumping ability.
Career end? But Eremenko, who since childhood absorbed all the vibes of the circus atmosphere, festive and working, did not imagine another life for himself. And the owners of the circus did not throw him out into the street, offering him a job as a watchman.

One night, going around his property, so that no mazuriks would encroach on the circus props, Evdokimenko noticed that his brushes … glow in the dark! The frightened watchman rushed to his closet and, without lighting a fire, jumped to the mirror. An intense yellowish-bluish glow emanated from both hands, shoulders and head.
Deciding that it was some kind of disease that could be contagious, Nikolai decided the next morning to see the surgeon who was treating his leg. The patient put the Aesculapius in a very difficult position. After listening to the heart and lungs, feeling the liver, tapping the knees with a hammer, the doctor did not find any deviations in Nikolai's health.
He only dared to suggest that the glow of the hands and head, perhaps, is somehow connected with the trauma that Evdokimenko suffered. Then he prescribed a sedative to the patient, and verbally advised him to use the newly discovered gift for its intended purpose.
The doctor was not mistaken. Having learned about the phenomenon, the circus authorities immediately suggested that Evdokimenko make a hitherto unprecedented number. At first glance, there was nothing unusual about him. The artist juggled with burning torches in the arena. But when the lights went out, the spectacle took on a fantastic character: the audience saw only luminous brushes flickering in the air, manipulating burning torches, and the same luminous shoulders and head, as if detached from the body.
As "Taganrogskie vedomosti" wrote, which dedicated a large essay to the Firefly Man, he invariably received notices at his daily performances.
The luminaries of medical science were interested in the phenomenon of Nikolai Evdokimenko, but he only once allowed them to reach his body, and even then only so that they publicly confirmed to the public that his glow was natural and not artificial. The artist was afraid that if he became a guinea pig in the hands of the Aesculapians, he might lose his gift, which brought him a good income.
And then the First World War broke out, and Nikolai Evdokimenko perished in its crucible …
The glowing woman from Pirano
In May 1934, the Times reported about the "glowing woman from Pirano." Signora Anna Monaro suffered from asthma for many years. One day, her relatives discovered that while she was sleeping, flashes of blue light emanated from her chest. Doctors who observed this phenomenon were never able to give it a reasonable explanation.
One psychiatrist theorized that it was "caused by electrical and magnetic organisms that have developed sufficiently strongly in this woman's body to give off a radiance." Although he could have said much shorter: "And the devil only knows!"
Another doctor proposed a theory of electromagnetic radiation, linking it with certain chemical components in the patient's skin, which was close to the then fashionable theory of bioluminescence - the ability of living organisms to glow due to their own proteins or with the help of symbiotic bacteria.
Dr. Protti suggested that Signora Monaro's poor health, together with starvation and piety, increased the amount of sulfides in her blood. Human blood emits rays in the ultraviolet range, and sulfides can be made to luminesce with ultraviolet radiation, and this explains the radiance emanating from Signora Monaro's chest. But the proposed theory did not explain the strange periodicity or localization of bluish flares.
"Hot" hunter
Here is what the Chita hunter Valery Sukharev said: “It happened in 1954. My brother and I hunted and spent all the winter months in the taiga. One evening an unfamiliar hunter knocked at our winter quarters. As usual, we offered him hot tea and food. But he refused, without undressing, sat down by the stove, and dozed off. We decided that he was unwell - he shuddered in his sleep, muttered something, his face was covered in some kind of brown spots …
Later, when the guest agreed to eat and took off his mittens, we saw that one of his hands was bandaged with dirty rags. After talking, the hunter said that he really got sick, was making his way into the city to see the doctors and that a strange illness had happened to him - his right hand was burning with fire in the most literal sense.
He unwrapped the bandages, we screwed on the kerosene wick and saw that the right palm of our guest really glows in the dark. Not only that, there was a radiance dripping from his fingertips, like the flame of an acetylene torch.
- Painfully? we asked.
“No,” he replied.
Strange spots on his face also glowed - only very faintly. Only in complete darkness, when we had already gone to bed, we discovered this. He himself, apparently, did not even know about it.
In the morning the hunter said goodbye and left.
What was it? Radiation? Blood poisoning? Are there any microbes?
Hardly. The fact is that the glow emanating from his hand was almost hot - not like a real fire, but somewhere close. When our guest put his hand on the newspaper that covered the table, it turned yellow in this place and became fragile, as if it had been exposed to temperature or acid …"
As on x-ray
Late at night, trucker Albert Pei was driving along a rather dangerous highway in the mountains of New Mexico (USA). After another turn, he saw a light on the side of the road, like a green flame.
A wrecked car lay in a ditch, and a wounded woman nearby. Her arm was broken, and a bone was sticking out of the wound that glowed.
Many mushrooms can glow in the dark
The driver took the woman to his car and drove her to the nearest hospital, where she was immediately placed on the operating table.
The patient was unconscious for two weeks. According to the documents found in the car, it was established that her name is Linda Hemurl, and she lives in California. A radiologist by profession. Linda's husband, who came to the hospital, admitted that he had noticed amazing things in the house for a long time.
Repeatedly in complete darkness he saw incomprehensible flashes in the room. And this only happened when the wife was nearby. But he never thought that it was Linda who could glow, and was convinced of this only after the nightmare accident.
Thanks to the efforts of doctors, Linda Hemurl soon got back on her feet. Although the injury did not leave any serious consequences, the woman was detained in the hospital for further examination. It was necessary to establish the cause of the glow of the bones. It was assumed that this is due to an unknown illness caused by her professional activities. After all, the woman was irradiated for many years. However, it was not possible to prove this.
Meanwhile, Linda has been glowing more and more lately. It has already come to the point that in the dark, the light coming from the bones is so strong that her skeleton is visible as clearly as on an X-ray.
Kind angel
A girl named Thi Nga lives in a small village in the Vietnamese province of Binh Dinh. Several years ago, it began to glow. In the dark, her body emits an incredibly bright phosphorescent glow, a huge glowing halo is visible around her head, and golden yellow rays emanate from her arms, legs and torso.
Parents took their daughter to all sorcerers and healers who performed magical rituals on her, even took her to Saigon to show them to medical luminaries, but no deviations in Thi's health were found. The girl glowed in the dark, and glows.
The doubts and fears of Thi and her parents were dispelled by a very famous healer in Vietnam, who explained that this is God's grace, given as if in advance, on account of future good deeds.

The girl heeded this advice. Now, wherever she appears, peace and harmony immediately come, those who quarreled reconcile, and the sick feel better.
The cases described above indicate that the glow of human bodies is a complex and ambiguous phenomenon. Most scientists who have studied this phenomenon for many years believe that it is associated with the phenomenon of bioluminescence. Others argue that it is caused by certain types of microbes, including dangerous ones. People who have been exposed to radiation can also glow. But science cannot yet give a clear explanation of this phenomenon.
