It is believed that the "Necronomicon", or "Al Azif", (which is translated from Arabic as "Book of the Dead") contained spells that, when uttered, could summon dark creatures from the other world. The authorship is attributed to a certain Abdul Al-Hazred, who lived in 600-700 years.
