“The task of Newspeak… is to narrow the horizons of thought. We will make thought-crime impossible … there will be no words left for it. Each concept will be designated … in one word … secondary meanings will be abolished and forgotten."

J. Orwell, "1984"

Why don't the West like Orwell? After all, it would seem that he was describing the "horrors of the Soviet totalitarian system" - at least, as it is presented to us today. Meanwhile, reality fully reflects his novel-reality "1984" … It was an encrypted message …

What do we know about the writer? Real name Eric Arthur Blair, was born in 1906 in India in the family of a British employee. He was educated at the prestigious Eton, served in the colonial police in Burma, then lived for a long time in Britain and Europe, making a living in odd jobs, then he began writing fiction and journalism. From 1935 he began to publish under the pseudonym George Orwell. A participant in the Spanish Civil War, where he faced manifestations of factional struggle in the motley environment of the left. He wrote many essays and articles of a social-critical and cultural nature. During World War II he worked for the BBC, in 1948 he wrote his most famous novel "1984", died a few months after its publication. All.

Meanwhile, the accents need to be correctly placed - working in Burma at least meant that he was an employee of the Colonial Security Forces, but the most important was his last place of work and those secrets that he actually gave out. Obviously, being terminally ill, he tried so hard to tell the world about the methodology of the coming psychological warfare.

The Tavistock Institute was established as a research center at the end of the First World War under the patronage of George of Kent (1902-1942, Master of the United Lodge of England) at the Tavistock Clinic under the direction of Brigadier General John R. Rees as a psychological warfare center coordinated by the Intelligence Service and the Royal last name. The result of work during the interwar period was the creation of a theory of mass brainwashing in order to change the individual and social values that govern social development. Those. preformatting the “collective unconscious” that governs a person and nations. In the 30s, the Tavistock Center came into close contact with the Frankfurt School, created by the "leftists" - followers of Reform Judaism and the teachings of Freud, who directed their knowledge to "reform the world."

In 1933, with the arrival of Hitler, the luminaries of the Frankfurt School became dangerous to "reform Germany" and they moved to the United States. After the move, the school received its first order and completed it at Princeton as a "Radio Research Project". At the same time, the director of the School, Max Horkheimer, becomes a consultant to the American Jewish Committee, conducting sociological research in American society on the topic of anti-Semitism and totalitarian tendencies at the expense of this organization. At the same time, he, together with Theodor Adorno (Wiesengrund), puts forward the thesis that the road to cultural hegemony lies not through a dispute, but through psychological processing. Psychologist Erich Fromm and sociologist Wilhelm Reich are involved in the work. Together with them, one of their followers, Herbert Marcuse, turns out to be in New York. Cooperating actively with American intelligence (OSS,then the CIA) and with the State Department, in the post-war period are engaged in the "denazification of Germany." Then their ideas were tested in the conditions of the "psychedelic revolution". "Make love, not war." And during the 1968 Paris uprising, students carry banners with the words: "Marx, Mao and Marcuse." Music, drugs and sex eroded a potential social revolution, the system turned the youth-rebellious style into fashion, using it not only politically, but also economically. During World War II, the Tavikstok Institute in Britain became the Army Psychological Office, while its subsidiaries coordinated their efforts within American psychological warfare structures such as the Committee for National Morale and the Strategic Bombardment Services.

"1984". Basic as "newspeak of human programming"

“We destroy words - dozens, hundreds daily. We leave the skeleton from the tongue. " "All concepts of good and bad should be described in two words."

"Heresy of heresies is common sense."

At the same time, at the beginning of World War II, a secret linguistic project is being developed in Tavistock as part of a directive from the British government on the preparation of psychological warfare. The object of the project was the English language and the peoples of the world who speak it. The project was based on the works of the linguist C. Ogden, who created a simplified version of the English language based on 850 basic words (650 nouns and 200 verbs), using simplified rules for their use. The result was "basic English" or abbreviated "BASIC", accepted with hostility by English intellectuals - the authors of the new language planned to translate into "BASIC" all the great English literature (the further development of the project was the translation of classical literature into the language of comics).

Simplified language limited the possibilities of freedom of expression, creating a "concentration camp of the mind," and the main semantic paradigms were expressed through metaphors. As a result, a new linguistic reality was created, which was easy to broadcast to the masses and appeal to their feelings through the metaphorical and intonational structure of the language. The possibility arose of not just a global ideological "straitjacket for consciousness." The British Ministry of Information, which during the war years completely controlled and censored the dissemination of information at home and abroad, conducting active experiments with BASIC on the BBC network, which received an order to create and broadcast programs in BASIC to India. One of the active operators and creators of these programs was D. Orwell and his fellow student at Eaton and close friend Guy Burgess (British intelligence officer, later revealed to be an agent of the Soviet Union along with Kim Philby. Apparently, it is no coincidence that Orwell's case was in Special_Branch for 20 years)

Orwell worked with BASIC for the Air Force, where his Newspeak got its roots. At the same time, Orwell, as a writer, was, to a certain extent, attracted by new conceptual developments and the ability to cancel meaning by means of a new language - everything that is not fixed by BASIC simply does not exist, and vice versa: everything expressed in BASIC turns out to be reality. At the same time, he was frightened by the omnipotence of the Ministry of Information, where he worked, which controls all information. Therefore, in the novel "1984" the emphasis is not on the degraded language, but on the control over information in the form of the Ministry of Truth ("Minitrue").

BASIC turned out to be a powerful tool for broadcasting and forming a simplified version of events, in which the very fact of censorship was simply not noticed or seen. We are seeing something similar now in relation to our history and culture. But Big Brother is not watching us - we ourselves are striving to get our portion of the TV drug.

Priority

"Winston was desperate, the old man's memory was just a dump of small details." "Power over the mind is greater than power over the body"

“The government itself is launching rockets on London to keep people at bay. They agree with the most egregious distortions of reality, because they do not understand the whole ugliness of the substitution and, having little interest in social events, do not notice what is happening around."

In the same place.

The BASIC project was the highest priority of the British Cabinet of Ministers during the war period and was personally overseen by Prime Minister W. Churchill. It was extended to the United States as well. On September 6, 1943, Churchill, in a speech at Harvard University, explicitly called for a "new Boston tea" using BASIC. Addressing the audience, the Prime Minister assured that the "healing effect" of changing the world is possible through control over language and, accordingly, over people, without violence and destruction. “Future empires will be empires of consciousness,” Churchill said.

Orwell's forecast was realized through “brainwashing” and “informing the population”, “doublethink” became the essence of “controlled reality”. This perverse reality is schizophrenic, not harmonic, as consciousness becomes inconsistent and fragmented. Orwell writes: “The purpose of Newspeak is not only to provide the followers of Ingsoc with the necessary means to express their ideological and spiritual bias, but also to make all other ways of thinking impossible. The task was set so that with the final acceptance of it and oblivion of the old-language, heretical thinking … would turn out to be literally unthinkable, at least to the extent that thinking depends on expression. The final adoption of Newspeak was planned by Churchill by 2050. In essence, Orwell talked aboutas part of a special British intelligence program to introduce Newspeak in English-speaking countries, he was preparing a global capitalist totalitarianism.

Whether this leakage of information was deliberate, or so the ambitions and talent of Orwell the writer found their way out, now it will be difficult to say for sure.

English "evolutionary positivism"

“Cut off from the outside world and from the past, a citizen of Oceania, like a person in interstellar space, does not know where is up and where is down. The goal of the war is not to win, but to preserve the social order"

- has been engaged in language games for a long time - just remember the language perversions of the mathematician L. Carroll, driving children crazy with the strange world of "Alice in Wonderland", from which ambiguity is one step to Orwell's doublethink. At this time, British intelligence had long used cryptograms, mechanical encoders and decoders, the code of which was never deciphered by the Abwehr. At the same time, she managed to decipher the general code of the Abwehr and the SD, as a result of which the most important messages about the impending bombing of English cities were intercepted, but so that the Germans would not guess about the decryption carried out, Churchill, Count of Marlborough, 33 degree freemason, lover of cigars, cognac and personal comfort, by personal order he forbade to inform the doomed population.

British Newspeak was initially not publicly appreciated by FD Roosevelt, who publicly declared the project simply "stupid." But the propaganda machine had already been launched - sentences were getting shorter, the vocabulary was simplified, the news was structured on the intonation and metaphorical model.

After the war, British television completely inherited this "sweet new style" - using simple sentences, limited vocabulary, emasculation, and sports programming on a special truncated schedule. By the mid-70s, this linguistic degradation reached its peak. Outside of 850 words, only place names and proper names were used, as a result, the vocabulary of the average American does not go beyond 850 words (excluding proper names and specialized terms).

In a 1991 Club of Rome report "The First Global Revolution," Sir A. King, Science and Education Policy Advisor to the Royal Family and Prince Philip personally, wrote that the new possibilities of communication technology would greatly expand the power of the media. It is the media that become the most powerful weapon and agent of change in the struggle to establish a “one-world” neo-Malthusian order. The understanding of the role of media follows from the work of the Tavistoky Institute (S. N. Nekrasov).

Вrainwashing

"They can be given intellectual freedom, who sees small things and does not see because they have no intelligence"

In the same place.

Back in 1922, V. Lippman (adviser to President Woodrow Wilson) in the cult book "Public Opinion" defined it as follows: pictures inside the heads of human beings, pictures of themselves and others, needs and goals, relationships and there is Public Opinion in capital letters … Lippmann, as a representative of an ethnos historically not possessing state thinking, believed that national planning is extremely harmful, and therefore was interested in manipulative practices with which one can change human nature. He was the first to translate Freud into English while serving in the First World War at the British Psychological Warfare and Propaganda Headquarters at Wellington House, along with E. Bernes, Freud's nephew, founder of Madison Avenue, a company specializing in advertising manipulative individuals.

Lippmann's book was published almost simultaneously with Freud's Psychology of the Masses. The Tavistock Center already at that time made a fundamental conclusion: the use of terror makes a person like a child, turning off the rational-critical function of thinking, while the emotional response becomes predictable and beneficial for the manipulator. Therefore, controlling the levels of anxiety of the individual allows you to control large social groups. At the same time, manipulators proceed from the Freudian idea of a person as a feeling animal, the creativity of which can be reduced to neurotic and erotic impulses that fill the mind with pictures drawn anew each time. Lippmann suggested that people simply dream of reducing difficult problems to simple solutions in order to believe what they think others believe. Such a simplified image of a totem man is extrapolated to a modern man."

“What is important is beyond their horizons. They are like an ant that sees small and does not see big."

In the same place.

Lippmann argues that adding so-called "human interests", sports, or crime stories to more serious stories of international relations can diminish the focus on serious material. This method should be used in order to provide information to an illiterate population and to lower the general level of culture so that people believe what they think others believe. This is the mechanism for shaping public opinion. According to Lippmann, public opinion is shaped by "a powerful and successful urban elite that gains international influence in the Western Hemisphere with London at the center."

Lippmann himself left the British Fabian socialist movement, from where he moved to the American department of the Tavistock Institute, where he worked in conjunction with the opinion polling services Roper and Gallup, created on the basis of the Tavistock developments.

Polls clearly demonstrate how opinion can be manipulated when an abundance of sources of information is assumed that only slightly differs in direction in order to mask the meaning and significance of external rigid control. Victims can only choose the details.

Lippmann proceeds from the premise that ordinary people do not know, but believe "opinion leaders", whose image has already been created by the media in the same way that it is created by movie actors who have more influence on the public than political figures. The masses are perceived as completely illiterate, feeble-minded, saturated with frustrated and neural individuals, and therefore resembles children or barbarians whose life is a chain of entertainment and amusement. Lippmann carefully studied the newspaper reading process by college students. He stated that although each student insisted that he read everything well, in fact all students memorized the same details of particularly memorable news.

Movies have an even more powerful effect on brainwashing. Hollywood plays a very important role in shaping public opinion. Lippman recalls D. Griffith's propaganda film about the Ku Klux Klan, after which no American can imagine the Klan without recalling the image of white robes.

Public opinion is formed on behalf of the elite and for the purposes of the elite. London is at the center of this elite in the Western Hemisphere, Lippmann argues. The elite includes the most influential people in the world, the diplomatic corps, top financiers, the top leadership of the army and navy, church hierarchs, owners of major newspapers and their wives and families. They are the ones who are able to create a "Great Society" of a single world, in which special "intellectual bureaus" will draw pictures in people's minds by order.

Radio Research Project

We create human nature. People are infinitely malleable"

In the same place.

- Sponsored by the Rockefeller Foundation, headquartered at Princeton University, as one of the branches of the Frankfurt School, became for Lippmann the most important media technology tool. Radio enters every home without demand and is consumed individually. In 1937, of 32 million American families, 27.5 million had a radio. In the same year, a project for the study of radio propaganda was started, from the side of the Frankfurt School it was supervised by P. Lazersfeld, he was assisted by H. Countryl and G. Allport, together with F. Stanton, who headed CBS News, later became the president of the Rand Corporation and one of six private individuals whom Eisenhower proposed to take control of the state "in the event of the invasion of the USSR and the destruction of American leaders." The theoretical understanding of the project was carried out by V. Benjamin and T. Adorno, who proved thatthat media can be used to induce mental illnesses and regressive states that atomize individuals.

Individuals do not become children, but fall into childish regressions. The researcher of radio dramas ("soap operas") G. Herzog found that their popularity could not be attributed to the socio-professional characteristics of the listeners, but to the listening format that evokes habit. The brainwashing power of serialization has been found in movies and television films: more than 70% of American women over 18 watch "soap" watching two or more shows a day.

Another famous radio project is associated with O. Wells 'radio production of H. Wells' War of the Worlds in 1938. More than 25% of listeners perceived the production as an informational message about the invasion from Mars, which led to national panic. Most listeners did not believe in the Martians, but they were eagerly awaiting a German invasion in light of the Munich Agreement, which was reported in the news right before the broadcast of the play. Listeners reacted to the format, not the content of the show. A properly selected format is so brainwashing of listeners that they become fragmented and stop thinking, and therefore a simple repetition of a given format is the key to success and popularity.

“When we become omnipotent, we will do without science. There will be no distinction between ugly and beautiful. Curiosity will disappear, life will not seek application for itself … there will always be an intoxication with power, and the further, the stronger, the sharper. If you want an image of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a person's face."

In the same place.

As we have already said, Saul Alinsky, who arose later, in his "Rules for Radicals" only publicly described the developments of the Tavistock Institute and RAND Corporation. Well, a figure by the name of Navalny, who is studying at Yale under this program, is testing them in Runet. Society should be nothing more than an interested spectator, and decision-making should be left to specially trained people (“Fear of Democracy,” Noam Chomsky).
