A 19-year-old Brazilian woman claims that doctors at the maternity hospital kidnapped her newborn. Laina Santos, who woke up after a caesarean section, was told that her pregnancy was phantom.
19-year-old Lane Santos was monitored by doctors throughout her pregnancy and regularly underwent routine examinations, during which the fetal heartbeat was heard. During the last ultrasound, the Brazilian woman and her husband, 28-year-old Lorivan Alves, found out the sex of the unborn child - the doctor said that it was a girl weighing 3 kg.
The happy couple moved into a spacious house, where they equipped a children's room, spending $ 3,000 on furniture and undershirts. The pleasant troubles of the future parents were interrupted by a complication of pregnancy - at 38 weeks, Lane started bleeding.
“The patient was admitted with an emergency vaginal bleeding. The obstetrician diagnosed premature placental abruption and ordered the delivery of the pregnant woman to the operating room,”the hospital records say.
Lorivan expressed an insistent desire to be present at the birth of his first child, but the doctors refused him, saying that his wife would undergo a caesarean section.

Waking up from anesthesia, Layna felt the bandage on her stomach and realized that the operation was over. The woman asked the nurse to show the newborn, but in response she heard the incredible: the doctor explained to the patient that she did not have a child, because her uterus was empty.
“I was told that the pregnancy was psychological, that is, imaginary. I cannot believe that a child weighing 3 kilograms can be made up. I believe that my baby was either stolen or she died during a caesarean section, and the medical staff carefully conceals this. After talking with the obstetrician, I was hysterical - I could not understand how a pregnant woman could come to the hospital and leave her without her daughter,”Santos wonders.
The couple refused to close their eyes to the disappearance of the fetus and filed a lawsuit in court demanding to investigate what had happened. The couple's lawyer, Leila Salomao, said the judge had already requested the discharge history of the 19-year-old patient, as well as all hospital records and test results.
The doctor who watched the course of Lane Santos' pregnancy promised to be a witness from the spouses in court.
It is worth noting that the Brazilian gynecologist Silvia Cavalcanti does not see anything criminal in this story, believing that the 19-year-old woman had a phantom pregnancy caused by a great desire to have a child. According to her, this led to the cessation of menstruation, hormonal changes and morning sickness.
