The death of a man from McHenry County, just days before he was due to receive his share of the $ 150,000 he found in his garden, has given the city's residents thought. Many began to believe in the righteousness of his elderly neighbor, who from the very beginning declared that money was cursed.
Wayne Sabai, 51, was an unemployed carpenter when he reported the discovery of bags of cash while harvesting broccoli in August 2012. As his lawyer Robert Burke said in court, on July 11 of this year, Wayne was supposed to conclude an amicable agreement in court, after which the found money would be divided between him and his neighbors.
Wayne's neighbor, Dolores Johnson, whose daughter also claimed the money on his behalf, died late last year. Johnson, who suffered from dementia, died in December at the age of 87. According to the lawyer, later the daughter refused the money, as they were cursed.
“Apparently she was right. Damned money,”summed up the lawyer.
Sabai died of complications related to diabetes in his home at night. At the same time, his father's heart stopped, and on the same night he was hospitalized after learning about the death of his son. The lawyer refused to provide detailed information about the village in which a series of these mysterious events took place.
Also, the owner of a local liquor store declared his rights to the found money, stating that it was for this amount that he was robbed in 2010. The money that has come from nowhere is still giving rise to all kinds of rumors.
After Sabay reported his find to the police, he stated that he did it because in his opinion it was money from the sale of drugs that fell out or were dropped from low-flying seaplanes.

Dr. Anne Majewski, McHenry County Coroner, confirmed that Sabai's death was pronounced at his home around 8pm. Although the official cause of death has not been determined, preliminary data indicate that he died from complications from diabetes.
“I have no reason to believe he was killed,” Majewski said.
The county sheriff's office has seized the found $ 150,000 and is awaiting a court decision.
“When we started the investigation, we checked all the thefts and robberies. We have not found a connection between this money and any of the crimes committed in the area,”said an officer from the sheriff's office.
According to US law, Sabai had to wait a year before the money he found passed into his property. Given the grim turn of events and the threat of a curse, the remaining claimants are inclined to abandon their claims in favor of the state.
