IBM experts have made some bold predictions for 2022. They recently submitted a list called "5 for 5", where they described the five most important technological developments that they believe will appear in our lives in the next five years. Artificial intelligence (AI) comes first on this list.
AI is considered a harbinger of an impending scientific breakthrough. At the moment we have a "passionless" AI that can beat a person in a chess game and in other games, but one day humanity will create a "passionate AI" that can comprehend the diverse world of emotions, become an interesting interlocutor, and it is almost impossible will be distinguished from a person.
Artificial intelligence
IBM predicts that AI will soon be able to analyze speech and writing and thus track changes in our mental state. The application on ordinary smartphones will be able to notice signs of depression in speech and will warn in advance about the development of this disease, leaving enough time for early treatment.
Over the next five years, IBM predicts that experimental systems will become more sophisticated and affordable, allowing anyone to track important speech changes.

IBM also foresees that AI will enable humans to have superhero vision in 2022.
We already have lenses and glasses that allow us to see the world in a different light, in the literal sense of the word - from infrared rays to microwave radiation. The company expects AI to make these lenses even more powerful, which will give us new opportunities - a person will see much better than ever.
For example, if you drive in fog, the AI will recognize challenging environmental conditions and switch to light waves that break through the fog and allow you to see through it.
Macroscopes
Their third prediction concerns "macroscopes", which will allow you to see everything in great detail.
Today, thousands of satellites are orbiting the Earth. In real time, they transmit data on air temperature, monitor criminal activity, troop movements, harvesting and so on.
IBM experts suggest that by 2022, all data from satellites will be able to be combined and then the analysis of interrelated phenomena such as climate change will become more efficient and accurate.
Labs on a Chip
And we are also waiting for medical diagnostics using miniature devices - "laboratories on a chip", small devices that can fit in the palm of your hand, allowing anyone to independently diagnose their health condition. There are already several prototypes of such "laboratories". These devices can be like a fitness bracelet that lets you know if you have any health problems.
Of course, these devices cannot replace general practitioners, and their work will continue to be very important in 2022. But IBM predicts that miniature biochemistry labs will become so commonplace that your health data will be displayed on your smartphone screen. Imagine, if these "laboratories on a chip" are connected to the healthcare system, then your local doctor will be able to monitor your health, and if serious symptoms are detected, come to your aid or even save your life.
Smart sensors
And finally, "smart sensors". These tiny devices that detect gas leaks, temperature changes, or environmental pollution already exist, but they often require human intervention to troubleshoot.
As predicted, newer versions of these devices will not only be connected to the Internet, they will also be able to log problems literally in real time and fix some problems themselves.
