A geographer named Matthew Blackett, who is an employee of the University of Coventry in the UK, has formed the top 5 most dangerous volcanoes on the planet. The eruptions of these sleeping monsters, as shown by computer simulations, can destroy many thousands of lives.

The material on the most dangerous volcanoes on Earth was published by The Conversation, and Lenta.ru writes briefly about them.

“We live on a planet covered with a colossal number of the most dangerous volcanoes, but some of them are especially threatening. These are, in particular, the Italian Vesuvius, Nyiragongo in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Popocatepetl in Mexico, Indonesian Krakatoa, and Paektusan in North Korea,”Blackett says.

Volcanoes, as the scientist notes, are the cause of death of a huge number of people. Since 1600, for example, volcanoes have killed nearly three hundred thousand people.

“Take, for example, the Tambora volcano - its large-scale eruption in 1815 led to an equally large-scale famine, which caused the death of almost hundreds of thousands of people. And the eruption of Krakatoa in 1883 caused a monstrous tsunami that killed about three and a half tens of thousands of people,”adds the geographer.
