Scientist Luigi Pascali of the University of Warwick linked economic growth in parts of Europe to the expulsion of Jewish communities from other parts of the world. The author's research was published in The Review of Economics and Statistics, briefly reported by the Daily Mail.
The scientist in his article considered the example of the Apennine Peninsula (its territory is occupied by modern Italy). In 1503, oppression of Jewish communities began in its southern cities, which, because of this, were forced to migrate to the north.
The outflow of one of the most economically active parts of the population led, according to Pascali, to a significant gap in the GDP of the two regions. In northern Italy, this figure was 10 percent higher than the GDP of the southern part of the country.
It is noted that the Jewish communities created the first credit organizations in the territories bordering on modern France. Banks have contributed to the efficient allocation of financial resources and economic growth.
The expert came to his conclusions by studying the demographic materials of the Renaissance and historical data on the change in the religious doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church.
