Antichrist or false Christ in Christianity is generally considered evil and will falsely claim that he is Christ. The term "Antichrist" is mentioned in the New Testament five times in the First and Second Epistles of John, once in the plural and four times in the singular.
Jesus, believed by Christians to be the Jewish Messiah (Christ), will appear during his Second Coming to Earth to confront the Antichrist, who will be considered the greatest false messiah in Christianity. According to Bernand McGin, just as Christ is the savior and ideal model for humanity, his opposite will be the unique figure of concentrated evil.
In some schools of illegal medieval Jewish eschatology, a similar anti-media figure, the son of a virgin named Armilus, is the king who will eventually rebel against the Messiah, and he will defeat him after Israel suffers much tribulation. The concept of the antichrist is absent in traditional Judaism; however, in the medieval diaspora, its inevitable destruction was described as a symbol of the final victory of good over evil in the messianic era.
The word "antichrist" was created by combining two roots: anti (Greek) and Christ (Greek). Anti means not only "against" but also "instead of". Christ is the Greek word for the Hebrew Messiah (Heb.). Both Christ and Messiah literally mean "Anointed One" and refer to Jesus of Nazareth in Christian, Jewish, and Islamic theology.
