In Egypt, found 3000-year-old remains of a woman who in ancient times could have been an influential priestess - this is indicated by her tattoos. This was announced by the head of the Council for Antiquities, Mustafa al-Waziri, according to International News.
The torso of the mummy was found in 2014 on the west bank of the Nile, in Deir el-Medina, one of a group of Theban necropolises located in the vicinity of Luxor. Only a body without a head, limbs and part of a pelvis has survived to this day. Analysis of the bones showed that the body belonged to a woman who lived in the X-XIII centuries BC. e. and died at the age of 25-30. The tomb with the mummy had previously been robbed, making the investigation difficult.
The body of the mummy is decorated with 30 unusual tattoos. The most unusual image is the eyes, drawn by lines. “Every time I look at this woman, I see these magical eyes looking right behind me,” said archaeologist Anna Austin.
This image of eyes would not be surprising if it was on the wall of the temple that venerated Horus, the sun god, but not on the body of a woman. This indicates that the tattoo may have belonged to an influential priestess or participant in an ancient magical ritual. However, scientists do not exclude that tattoos had another meaning, for example, they protected from diseases.
