Stonehenge could have been built on the territory of modern Wales, where it was located for 500 years, and then it was "dismantled and dragged away" to Wiltshire. This assumption was put forward by British archaeologists, writes The Guardian.
Scientists are reported to have discovered identical holes to Stonehenge stones near Preseli Hills in Pembrokeshire that were carved 500 years earlier. The holes date back to 3400-3200 BC. BC, and Stonehenge appeared in Wiltshire no earlier than 2900 BC. e.
According to Professor Mike Parker Pearson of University College London, it is highly unlikely that the blocks would take so long to create and deliver them to present-day Wiltshire. Most likely, the stones were used to create a local monument next to the quarry, and then it was dismantled and taken to Wiltshire.
He also suggested that the "first Stonehenge" was created in Wales, and the one in Wiltshire is the second such monument.
