The building of the Mariinsky Palace is a cultural and architectural monument of the city on the Neva. At present, the Legislative Assembly is located within its walls. Over the years of its long existence, the palace building has more than once happened to witness many episodes saturated with drama. And, no doubt, it was not without ghosts. To get rid of ghosts, the people's choices had to perform special rituals. The palace was built in 1839-1844, the architect of which was A. I. Stakenshneider. The building of the palace borders on the southern side the future St. Isaac's Square, and is located in the area of the former residence of the counts Chernyshevs, which was transferred to the treasury due to debts.
The Mariinsky Palace was a wedding gift from Nicholas I to his daughter Maria and Duke Maximilian of Leuchtenberg, who was the grandson of Josephine Beauharnais, the first wife of the French emperor Napoleon. That is why the palace was named after the Grand Duchess - Maria Nikolaevna.

- The ghost story began about two years ago, when I just started my parliamentary duties. Then I heard the conversations of many representatives of the Legislative Assembly, in which they discussed the fact that behind the wall of the gallery of honorary figures of St. Petersburg, it happened to see a woman's phantom.
The ghost of a woman seemed to be translucent, and was dressed in a dress of the early twentieth century. She was usually seen in inclement weather, when it was drizzling outside. True, the majority did not want to be in that zone with the onset of dusk, explaining this with painful sensations.
An unofficial investigation was carried out. It was found that the murder was indeed committed in 1903 at this very place where the ghost now appears.
