In popular culture, the image of Ahnenerbe is significantly distorted. It is believed that the main purpose of the organization was eugenic pseudoscientific experiments and the search for ancient, supposedly magical artifacts. In fact, the number of Ahnenerbe's special departments was approaching several dozen, and in many of them completely scientific developments were carried out. Moreover, some of the most secret projects could even turn the tide of the war - Ahnenerbe's engineers simply didn't have enough time.
Serpent of Midgard
The Ahnenerbe specialists, with typical German practicality, set about developing projects so fantastic that a scientist of any other nationality would not even take them seriously. Maybe that's why the engineers of Nazi Germany were able to provide the country with technical superiority, simply by following orders. At the end of World War II, the special department "M" successfully tested a prototype of the Midgard-Schlange submarine warfare system. The "Serpent of Midgard" was supposed to be used to attack British ports.

For several years, the organization, supported at the very top, turned into a gigantic bureaucratic machine through which almost all the work of the Third Reich passed. One of the cogwheels of this soulless monster, the Legacy of the Ancestors unit was closely engaged in the development of "weapons of retaliation." If the SS had completed their V-2 six months earlier, they could well have delayed the advance of the Red Army for a long time.

Space station
On the implementation of the space program, German scientists expected to spend no more than 50 years. It sounds like a fantasy, but the first victorious steps inspired the Fuhrer with the idea of an unconditional victory over the Allied troops. However, the victory will also need to be held in hand - for this, the space program was needed. In the depths of the technical departments of Ahnenerbe, a project of a space station was born, the entire surface of which would represent a huge mirror with a diameter of three square kilometers. Mathematically, the reflection of the sun's rays on the ground with such a mirror could destroy even armored vehicles. As a confirmation of the claims of the Third Reich not only on earthly, but also on galactic dominion, one can cite the proven cases of the V-2 being withdrawn into outer space.
Reactor BVIII
It is believed that German scientists did not have enough time to develop a working model of a nuclear explosive device. It was only after the war that a uranium enrichment program was launched in the USSR, on which the captured German scientists worked. According to military expert Rainer Karlsch (and his specialization is just the technology leaked from the Reich), the Nazis even had their own nuclear reactor. Data on the BVIII model today are not considered reliable, due to the lack of an evidence base, but according to indirect information, Germany managed not only to create, but also to test a miniature nuclear bomb.
Reich legacy
None of the victorious superpowers was going to miss the development of the Nazis. Spy passions on the remains of the Third Reich were in full swing. Unfortunately, American specialists managed to get their hands on most of Germany's innovative technologies. According to some reports (the American operation Paperclip disclosed by the GRU), the entire structure of the Ahnenerbe was simply transferred to the US military-industrial complex.
