The mysterious "dinosaur eggs" were recently discovered by Nikolai Pekhterev, a resident of the village of Mokraya Olkhovka, Kotovsky District. Several giant egg-shaped balls with a diameter of 1-1.2 meters are located at a depth of about 10-15 meters

The strange find immediately attracted the attention of local residents, although, according to the head of the rural settlement Mokraya Olkhovka, Sergei Fokin, the fossilized "eggs" did not surprise him personally. He himself perfectly remembers how in the 60s a couple of such "greetings from dinosaurs" appeared from the earth after prolonged rains.

“Old-timers remember that such“eggs”were found here even before and after the war,” says the director of the local museum, Nadezhda Zaichikova. “They were dug right out of wells and then left on the streets for beauty. Both in the 60s and in the 70s, local residents discovered strange balls, but somehow they got so used to them that no one attaches any importance to it. Although, of course, we all want to believe that these are the real dinosaur eggs.

“Of course, it can be dinosaur eggs,” Oleg Brekhov, associate professor of the Department of Zoology, Ecology and General Biology, Volgograd Pedagogical University, commented to the Pervaya Gazeta. - As you know, these animals lived on the territory of the entire planet, and it is known for sure that within the boundaries of the present Volgograd region. Local archaeologists sometimes stumble upon the bones of ancient reptiles. But eggs, as far as I know, have never been found.

According to Brekhov, such a find is extremely important scientifically. May be. that the eggs were laid by a female of some new species - still unknown to science.

But the former director of the Mokroolkhov Museum, Vasily Pogrebnoy, is sure that the mysterious balls half a human height are the consequences of geological excavations.

“At the end of the 1940s, a rumor spread that iron ore deposits were found in our area,” says Vasily Ilyich. - An expedition came here, worked for about a year. And then the head of geologists brought a package sealed with sealing wax to the local party committee and said: “What is stored in this package is an important state secret. You can open it only after special instructions. By the way, the ore was never found here, and the strange package was lost over time. Maybe there was something in him about these so-called eggs?

Pogrebnoy himself doubts the prehistoric origin of the Mokrolhov balls. Says that dinosaurs hardly laid eggs of stone. However, inside each "egg" there is another ball, as if from compressed sand with sparkles. And this sand should be given for examination, the old local historian is sure.

“I didn’t go to the site, but I saw the photographs,” Alexander Yarkov, a full member of the paleontological society at the Russian Academy of Sciences, head of the laboratory of evolutionary ecology and archeology of the Volga Humanitarian Institute, commented to the Pervaya Gazeta. - I think it's still not dinosaur eggs. The fact is that in our area the bones of mainly marine reptiles are found. For example, I have personally found the remains of ichthyosaurs or mesosaurs. The islands were here for a short time: therefore, from the land ones I came across only the tooth of a brontosaurus. In addition, the photo shows that the fossils are too large. Meanwhile, the egg of the largest dinosaur known to science, the diplodocus, is only 20 cm in diameter. Therefore, most likely, we are dealing with lime formations. Not far from this place, I have already found something similar - the formation of calcareous algae. Petrified wood and gigantic scallops are found there. In any case, this is a very important find. Of course, these "eggs" have scientific value, and in some countries - aesthetic. For example, in China they pay a lot of money for such things. It is a pity that in the Kotovsky district they are broken "into souvenirs." I would very much like to go on an expedition and bring a copy or two for our museum. But there is no such possibility yet.that in the Kotovsky district they are broken "into souvenirs". I would very much like to go on an expedition and bring a copy or two for our museum.
