A gigantic sculpture was discovered in Israel at the bottom of Lake Tiberias, which is better known as the Sea of Galilee. Archaeologists still find it difficult to answer the question of the purpose of this stone structure. The age of the find has not yet been established. The mysterious structure, made up of basalt blocks and stones weighing 60,000 tons, is shaped like a cone, according to the scientific portal Live Science.

The diameter of the structure, which rises 10 meters above the bottom of the lake, is 70 meters. Outwardly, the structure resembles a pyramid, it is usually used in ancient times for burials. But it is not yet known whether it was used for such purposes.

For the first time, the stone pyramid was noticed in the summer of 2003 during the exploration of the Sea of Galilee with the help of sonar. Then a group of divers tried to study it. The information was published in the International Journal of Nautical Archeology. Study of the structure at a closer distance revealed that it is composed of basalts, which are more than 1 meter long. However, the divers were unable to obtain evidence that the stones had been pretreated.

Archaeologist Yitzhak Paz of the Israel Antiquities Authority noted that the pyramid may have been built about 4,000 years ago, as the megalithic structures found nearby date from this period. One of them is located in the Khirbet Beteiha area, about 30 kilometers northeast of the massive underwater structure.
