Sharks attacked three surfers in just a few hours. All attacks took place on the beaches of New Smyrna Beach in Florida, USA.
State officials say the sheer numbers of small fish near the shore have caused so many shark attacks.
“It's not normal that three people were bitten one after another, but this has already happened. Typically, these series of attacks only occur once or twice a year,”said Tamra Marris, spokeswoman for the Volusi County Rescue Service.
A 43-year-old man was the first to suffer from a shark bite. The predatory fish bit his leg. In just 20 minutes, a 36-year-old Miami resident was bitten by both hands. The third and final bite was reported 2 hours later. This time, a 16-year-old teenager was injured. The shark bit the guy on the leg. The first two victims were hospitalized. The teenager refused the hospital.
Although the beaches have signs warning people of danger, surfers are attracted by the excellent weather for boarding.
