This strange place is the so-called Green Island, dividing the Don River into two branches right opposite the city of Rostov-on-Don. The island is five kilometers long and about two kilometers wide.

Rumors that “not everything is clean” on the Green Island spread in Rostov long before censorship was abolished in the country during perestroika, and as a result of its cancellation, articles about UFOs, brownies, goblin and others began to appear in newspapers. devilry."

"Somewhere in the mid-twenties of this century, according to the recollections of old-timers, the townspeople passed from mouth to mouth horror stories about ghosts, drowned people and the living dead, allegedly" entrenched "on the island," - said in the editorial - without a signature - article "Island Green and a bit Bermuda”, published in the local newspaper“Absolutely unclassified”(1991. No. 3).

Then the excitement around the "evil on the island" subsided. And the time has come such that they would not pat on the head for their fascination with mysticism. Just before the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, new rumors spread around the city - it is not known for what reasons that Zeleny Island was suddenly occupied by the NKVD troops and "something is taken out by trucks at night" …

In the early seventies, the topic of the "unclean island" again began to surface in the gossip of Rostovites.

Mikhail N recalls:

“Once I sailed to the Green Island in the evening - at sunset. He left his boat on the shore, not far from the sandy spit, and went into the bushes for dry forest to make a fire. He moved away from the river bank very close and moved all the time strictly in a straight line - perpendicular to the bank of the Don. Imagine my surprise when the branches in front of me suddenly parted and I went ashore directly to my boat!

I could not get lost - the forest growing on the island does not differ, to put it mildly, in density. Not a forest, but just one name! And yet the impression was as if, having wandered in a dense thicket, I made a circle and returned to where I had gone into the forest. This puzzled me greatly. I again entered the thicket of bushes, although in a different place. Five minutes later I found myself again on the river bank next to my boat. And so - five times!

Promotional video:

The most amazing thing is that the small compass embedded in the strap of my wrist watch always showed the correct direction - strictly to the north. I made the last two attempts, specially checking with him …"

After some time, a company of young Rostovites came to the same sandy spit of the Green Island by boat. The guys settled down to rest on the shore, and then suddenly the soil under them began to vibrate slightly. The outlines of surrounding objects blurred, and a piercing buzzing, pressing on the psyche, hung in the air. The teenagers failed to determine the source of the sound.

The vibration and buzzing gave the guys excruciating headaches and stopped only when the whole company hastily plunged into the boat and moved to another place.

And here is a case that happened relatively recently - in the summer of 1990. On a day off on their own "Zaporozhets" a family arrived on the island - a mother, a father and their six-year-old daughter Anya. Parents pitched a tent on the river bank, made a fire, cooked fish soup. The girl was with them all the time. While her mother was washing the dishes after dinner, and her father was busy with the engine of the Zaporozhets, the little girl disappeared somewhere.

The search lasted two hours! Suddenly, the girl was found sleeping peacefully in a tent. How six-year-old Anya ended up in the tent is not clear, given the fact that while her father frantically combed the forest in fruitless searches for his daughter, Anya's mother was always near the tent. She categorically claims that she looked into the tent ten minutes before Anya suddenly showed up under her canvas canopy. So, ten minutes ago, the girl was not in the tent. And suddenly - bam! - lies, sleeps in it.

An interesting detail: it was far from immediately possible to wake Anya. When the exhausted and worried parents nevertheless woke her up, the girls were able to understand one thing from the confused explanations - she fled into the forest, went out there into some clearing with a black stone in the middle, accidentally leaned her shoulder against a stone and instantly fell asleep. What happened to her next and how she got into the tent, Anya did not remember.

Her father, intrigued by his daughter's story, was never able to find a "clearing with a black stone" on the island.

This adventure had no consequences for the six-year-old girl. Well, maybe except one.

“Previously, my daughter never spoke in her sleep,” says Anina’s mother. - And now it happens. And neither I nor my husband can understand what language she speaks …

There are other reports of "witchcraft passions" taking place on the Green Island. Especially a lot of them have accumulated in the archives of the Rostov youth newspaper Nashe Vremya (formerly Komsomolets).

The most, in my opinion, amusing messages collected by Rostov journalists refer to the events that took place before the start of the Great Patriotic War. Remember? For some time, the NKVD troops "occupied" Zeleny Ostrov, they took something out of it at night …

There are recollections of old-timers from Rostov, including one former NKVD employee, that on the eve of the war there allegedly happened on the island … an accident of a "flying saucer"! The crash site of an incomprehensible flying device without wings was urgently cordoned off by NKVD officers, since they mistook the UFO for a secret fascist aircraft of the latest design. While his remains were being examined, war broke out. For some reason (the wreckage of the crashed UFO may have gone deep into the ground), all that was left of the "secret plane" was not evacuated from the island in time. German units were approaching Rostov …

Today, when you cross from the right bank of the Don to the Green Island over the bridge, you can see a modest memorial on the right just behind the bridge. It is written on the pedestal that it was installed in memory of the NKVD regiment, which stood to death here during the war years and died in its entirety.

So, in the memoirs of the old-timers of Rostov it is said: the NKVD regiment stood on the island to death, protecting a group of other employees of this specific organization, hastily, according to the assumptions of old-timers, who dug out the last fragments of the "flying saucer" from the ground and evacuated these fragments at an urgent pace away from the line front.

After the war, the removed remains of the "plate" may have continued to be studied in one of Beria's "sharashki". But perhaps not all of the UFO wreckage was taken out … For to this day the Green Island continues to amaze Rostovites with "side effects" caused, for example, by the UFO fragments remaining in the soil.

Here's a story about these "side effects" - the story of how millions of rubles were thrown by local authorities to the wind!

At the beginning of the eighties, Rostov newspapers amicably started talking about the creation of a "Pioneer Republic" on the Green Island. It was decided to turn the island into a total recreation area for schoolchildren, and only for them. It was planned to build pioneer camps, sports grounds, and attractions here.

Work on the construction of the "Pioneer Republic", which was very expensive, began … Foundations were laid, and in some places even concrete support pillars were installed on them … All these foundations can be seen quite well on the island to this day. Some of them are covered with concrete pillars that have collapsed long ago.

All of a sudden, widespread work was suddenly suspended and then completely curtailed. No explanation was given in the Rostov press. Local newspapers almost instantly "shut up" - they stopped printing on their pages cheerfully, bravura-trumpet articles about the construction of the "Pioneer Republic".

Only in the years of perestroika it was possible to find out: the construction of buildings for pioneer camps was abruptly interrupted, as local chemists discovered a multitude of rare chemical elements in the soil of the island that are dangerous to health, primarily to the health of children. Experts argued that the spread of these elements was to blame for the planes landing at the city airport just above the Green Island. Asserting this, for some reason respected specialists have "forgotten" that the jet nozzles of civil (not military) aircraft throw out only the waste of the combustion of elementary kerosene! And kerosene, as even schoolchildren know, does not contain any rare elements.

Relatively recently, new studies of the chemical composition of the soil were carried out on the Green Island. And here it suddenly became clear that the soil contains, along with others, such elements that are practically not found in nature in a free state. In addition, they have nothing to do with aviation or local industry.

These elements, most likely, somehow participate in mutational processes that take place in plants and trees only - I emphasize: only! - on the Green Island. On the Don banks to the left and right of the island, there are none at all. On the island - and only, I repeat, here! - in the area of the recreation center of the Donskoy River Shipping Company there are very strange abandoned small cherry orchards. The cherries that ripen on the local trees are four to six times larger than ordinary berries! Chemical analysis of their composition showed that each huge cherry is literally stuffed with rare chemical elements that are extremely dangerous to human health. No other definition is suitable for such berries, except as "Chernobyl cherries" …

Where did the chemical elements that do not occur naturally in a free state come from in "commercial quantities" on the Green Island?

The answer, in my opinion, suggests itself.

A clear trace of the events of the pre-war and war period, which ended in the complete death of all personnel of the NKVD regiment, which was standing - why ?! But why?! - defending the little Green Island to death. Perhaps the old-timers are right in assuming that the regiment, standing to death, covered those who were taking out the last remnants of the crashed "secret plane" from the island?
