An unusual natural phenomenon that occurred last week in Sydney caused a lot of controversy among eyewitnesses and representatives of the scientific community.

Numerous photos of the storm with an eerie green glow in the clouds posted on the Internet are still vigorously discussed. No one has yet been able to give an intelligible explanation of this phenomenon.

Some at first thought it was light emanating from green grass, passing through the storm and reflected back into people's eyes. But scientists have refuted this theory.

Also questioned was the theory that green clouds were due to the difference between the warmer colors of daylight and a cloud.

The most plausible is the version of Dr. Joshua Soderholm, a scientist at Monash University. He claims that the strange clouds may have turned green due to the thunderstorm acting as a filter. Light passing through a thunderstorm filters certain wavelengths. And one of the wavelengths that passed through the storm was just in the green range.
