Over the course of nine years from 1980 to 1989, in one of the new buildings in the city of Kramatorsk, six residents died one after the other. Perhaps there would have been many more deaths, and the house would have been known as damned, if not for the persistence of one of the residents.
Strange deaths
In 1980, in the city of Kramatorsk, which is located in the Donetsk region in Ukraine, another residential building was put into operation. Joyful townspeople quickly moved into brand new comfortable apartments. The tenant of one of them was happy, like everyone else, until a year after the housewarming, she had trouble - her daughter died. But this terrible loss was far from the last. The next year, her son also passed away. The mother followed the children.
The apartment was empty. The municipal authorities gave housing to another family, which also had a child. Soon the boy fell ill and died. It seemed that some terrible curse was hanging over the apartment. Moreover, absolutely all of the deceased were diagnosed with the same disease - blood cancer - shortly before their death. However, the father of the deceased child decided by all means to achieve a thorough investigation of the strange deaths.
Capsule in the wall
In 1989, specialists armed with dosimeters came to the ill-fated apartment. To their horror, they found in the room a radiation level that exceeded the norm by several times. During a detailed study of the rooms in one of the walls, the experts discovered a miniature capsule, in which there was a radioactive nuclide cesium-137.

As a result of the study of the capsule, it turned out that it is a part of a level gauge construction device or, as it is popularly called, a level. According to the data indicated on the capsule, they calculated the organization to which this level gauge once belonged, as well as, in turn, the circumstances due to which the radioactive element was walled up in the wall.
How did she get there?
Not far from Kramatorsk, in the same place in the Donetsk region, the Karansky quarry was located, from where trucks with rubble came to construction sites. A deadly capsule in the 1970s was lost by one of the workers just in the territory of the quarry. Then it was not possible to find it. And this is no wonder: such a capsule does not exceed 1 centimeter in length. Therefore, soon the incident was simply forgotten. Meanwhile, in 1980, cesium-137 found itself in the wall of one of the new buildings.
However, the four residents mentioned above were not the only victims of gross negligence. Two more people who lived in neighboring apartments died of cancer. And 17 people received various doses of radiation. Many of them were permanently disabled.
