The Taishet anomalous zone is the place of UFO sightings, ball lightning and chronomirages in the west of the Irkutsk region.
July 26 - August 7, 2003, the Bratsk-Kosmopoisk group (N. Tomin, V. Golubkov) set off on the 154th expedition to the region of this legendary village. Group leader Nikita Tomin describes its results as follows:
“We were most interested in one anomalous birch grove located in the northwest side of the village, which is called poskotina in local slang. The fact is that this is one of the local mysteries, since in a strange, somehow natural way, during thunderstorms, lightning strikingly often fell into birches in this grove.
We found the old trees, cut by a shock of an electric discharge of hundreds of thousands of amperes, rather quickly. There were three of them, located at a short distance from each other. The traces of an electrical fault on all affected birches were old, their age was approximately 5-10 years.
It could also be said that these blows occurred, apparently, in some one specific period and were so powerful that they cut along the thick trunks of birch trees almost to the very ground. In addition to everything else, we discovered a number of certain oddities of this grove.
Firstly, most of the birch trees have extremely irregular trunks, in particular hyperbolic and gently wavy. Secondly, there are no new birches in this meadow, all the trees are old and, moreover, as shown by a detailed inspection of the grove, about one generation.
It can be seen that this grove is gradually dying, most of the birches simply disintegrate into pieces, and new trees stubbornly do not grow. Although there was a similar grove about 500 meters from this place, there were many young growth, and the trunks of the birches were slender, without any visible anomalies …
In the course of night ufological shifts, not only high UFO activity in a given area was reliably recorded, but a number of patterns in the movement of these objects were also analytically found.

1. As observations have shown, the peak of UFO flight activity in a given area falls on the period 00: 00-01: 00 local time.
2. With a certain degree of probability, we can talk about a permanent flight route of these objects, which is located 2-4 km south of the village and next to which we may have been on the night of August 4.
3. Noted, for the most part purely subjective, the relationship between the appearance of UFOs and the observation of them.
In total, at least 11 UFO flights were reliably recorded for 5 conducted ufological night shifts (note: details on ufological shifts are described in the appendix).
4. We can reliably talk about the fact of the appearance in different periods of time (mainly in the late 1980s - early 1990s) of glowing balls over the territory of the village, the routes of which mainly passed through the local cemetery.
Less definitely, we can talk about the appearance of chronomirages (if the nature of these phenomena is really such), at least about the vision of an ancient city, observed, unfortunately, by only one person, in contrast to the chariot phantom, which was seen by at least more than four people …
