Information about this strange phenomenon, observed on a quiet May evening in 1964 over Lake Baikal, was reliably stored for many years in the secret archives of the Soviet special services.
The change of the anti-aircraft missile battalion located 30 kilometers west of the city of Ulan-Ude, which had come on duty, did not bode well on the evening of May 17, 1964. Ordinary army routine with periodic control and verified reports of radar operators. At about 21:00 local time, the crew of one of the anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM) reported to the battalion's command post that an impending crimson glow was recorded over Lake Baikal.
In his next message, transmitted ten minutes later, the senior crew officer announced that he was seeing a burning taiga on the eastern Baikal coast. At this time, the servicemen of all the divisions' complexes had the opportunity to observe how the purple shroud, shimmering with matte glare, captures more and more areas of the evening sky, moving fairly quickly to the east.
At 21 hours 20 minutes, strong interference appeared on the radio air, and soon communication between divisions of the division could only be carried out by an ordinary wired telephone. First "this" was seen by senior sergeant Nikolai Rakhmatullin, which he immediately reported to the commander. At about 22:00, the bloody fog turned into intense flashes of fire that engulfed both the sky and the taiga. At this time, a command was sent from the battalion commander to all officers and soldiers - to put on personal protective equipment and start measuring the radiation background and the chemical composition of the air in the territory where the unit was located. According to eyewitnesses, a sudden feeling of fear and depression seized the servicemen. Many of them started to have headaches, joints and abdomen. Some developed diarrhea. Only at half past four in the morning the fog cleared away,and at the same time, the SAM crews felt relief.
One of the most harmless manifestations of the crimson fog was recorded in August 2001. Then none of the eyewitnesses was hurt, but the horror caused by the appearance of the crimson haze did not pass for a long time. This is how it happened: a group of tourists went to the Elitsa River in the Moscow Region. The young people planned to sit by the fire, sing songs with a guitar - in general, to relax so that they would have pleasant memories for a long time. In fact, everything turned out completely differently: in the midst of the evening, when twilight was just beginning to descend on the ground, as if from nowhere appeared crimson clouds of fog.
The fog looked like a snowball - it did not cover the entire visible space, but only a part and moved as if it were being deliberately pushed by someone's invisible hand. Later, all eyewitnesses shared the same story. The horror seemed to have nailed them to the ground, they could not move either hand or foot. The impression was that the crimson haze was illuminated from within by a gloomy radiance, and from its depths someone's attentive gaze was watching the young people. No one could utter a word until the crimson clouds came close to the fire. At that moment, the clouds of fog, as if burned by fire, recoiled back and melted as suddenly as they appeared.
A number of rather original hypotheses have emerged these days. In particular, Vasily Andreevich Kropochev, an employee of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, believes that the fire fog is a consequence of powerful geomagnetic emissions from the interior of the planet, which arise as a result of tectonic plate movements.
