The US Food and Drug Administration has authorized the sale of cultured salmon. The taste of this fish is indistinguishable from the real one.

Genetically modified salmon grows three times faster than normal, but is unable to reproduce on its own. This is the first time in history that a GMO animal product has received official approval. Previously, only GMO plant foods were allowed to be consumed.

This fish does not look like ordinary salmon. It is twice as large and grows twice as fast. It is precisely these features of this genetically modified fish that were used by lobbyists to eventually reach American store shelves.

For about 10 years, a battle has been going on between the US Food Control Agency, which generally supported lobbyists, and those organizations and social movements that oppose genetically modified foods.

As a result, the battle ended in victory for the management, which today posted an appeal to citizens on its official website, stating that such fish is safe for consumption. And soon it will hit the shelves.

At the same time, the most interesting detail is that the producers of such fish will not have to label it as a genetically modified product. Therefore, one can only hope for our own knowledge to distinguish this fish from normal.

Proponents of GMO fish said that, for one thing, it could be grown faster and would be twice as large. In addition, it can be grown not in the sea, but literally in aquariums at home.

It will be grown in Canada and Panama. Two large pools have already been created for such fish. Then it will go on the shelves of American stores, and in the future, as supporters of such products say, it will most likely be sold on European shelves.

Opponents of such a fish, who have already called it "Frankenfish" (by analogy with the famous literary hero - the monster Frankenstein), say that the main danger is not even that it is not known how it will affect the human body in the future.

Most importantly, this fish can "escape" from its pools. And, despite assurances that it cannot breed in captivity, this fish can eventually, if it enters the world's oceans, completely eliminate natural “competitors”. As a result, there will be no normal fish in the world's oceans.
