The proposal to change the genes of the crew members of the Martian expedition was made at the Codex innovation summit, which took place recently in London. The far-reaching goal of DNA alteration: to protect astronauts from cosmic radiation en route to Mars and on its surface.
And cosmic radiation is really dangerous - without protecting yourself from it, it is best not to go on interplanetary travel at all. Experiments conducted by scientists from the University of California (Irvine) are convincing of this. As it turned out, streams of high-energy charged particles that permeate space can damage the brains of astronauts and deprive them of their minds.

On Earth, we are protected by the magnetic field. The protection that our planet creates extends a little into near-earth space, protecting the crew of the International Space Station (ISS). But on the way to Mars - in outer space - radiation is raging in full force. Its impact was modeled at the NASA Space Radiation Laboratory at New York's Brookhaven National Laboratory. The rats were bombarded with high-energy charged particles. We saw: radiation affects nerve cells. Result: dementia and memory loss. Scientists observed both that, and another - both directly in the process of irradiation - as if during the flight, and after - as if already on Mars.
"Cosmic Brains" - so called the observed metamorphosis Dr. Charles Limoli (Dr Charles Limoli), who led the research. But the danger of being moved by the mind is not the only one. The whole body is at risk. It has long been known that radiation, damaging human cells, causes cancer.
So that healthy and still smart astronauts, and not sick idiots, fly to Mars, the chief technologist of NASA proposes to send such mutants, protected at the genetic level, into flight. According to the Terrier, it is possible to change DNA in such a way that cells themselves will begin to eliminate damage caused by cosmic radiation with a triple force. With the help of such an internal repair, it seems that drugs have already been developed that can make appropriate changes in genes. And in general - to strengthen the body.
As it became known from the secret plans of NASA, which was recently revealed by Helen Sharmen - the first British astronaut, the Martian crew will be exclusively female.
