HYPERBOREI IS DREAMED BY MANY SEEKERS
At one time, geophysicist Vladislav Vasiliev was ready to prove that there could be no caves on the Kola Peninsula.
Where do they come from among the granite? However, while preparing for the next tourist trip, the researcher accidentally stumbled upon a map of the area, where there were characteristic signs denoting caves. From this began his passion for speleology. Today nobody knows more about the local caves than Vasiliev.
Vasiliev collected information about the underground caves of the Kola land bit by bit: in the archive, in conversations with local historians, old-timers. And then he went on a journey to see firsthand what people told him about.
So, Vasiliev managed to learn about the cave, which was located next to the former village of Ponoy. Local residents told the researcher that primitive painters painted it with petroglyphs. True, it has not yet been possible to find the ancient "picture gallery". As it was not possible to find the dungeons in the Lovozero tundra, where, according to legend, the library-testament of the ancient Hyperboreans is kept. After all, there is an assumption that it was on the Kola Peninsula that the homeland of mankind was located - Hyperborea. By the way, dozens of enthusiastic people are still sent in search of her.
During the research, Vasiliev managed to find 80 caves. He also visited many abandoned mines located on the Kola Peninsula. However, for all the external attractiveness, such studies are rather dangerous. Vasiliev had to go down deep underground, walk along half-rotted bridges, under which a gaping abyss gaped.
Many man-made underground caves were created on the Kola land during the Great Patriotic War. The Nazis housed a hospital, an underground plant, an ammunition depot, and a coastal torpedo complex in them. Interesting dungeons can also be found in Murmansk.
For example, the headquarters of the 14th army, which defended the city during the war, was located inside the rock near the Ice Lake. Now this building is abandoned, only occasionally homeless people spend the night in it. The same fate befell another object - a bomb shelter, which was built in the rocks on one of the streets of Murmansk. Others are much better preserved. During the war, when the Nazis mercilessly bombed Murmansk, a radio broadcasting station was based there, which informed the townspeople of news from the front.
