According to the New York Post, in 1993, the respected scientist Claudie was a backup crew member for the 1993 Altair mission Mir, which included her future husband, Haignere.
In 2001, she became the first European woman to visit the International Space Station.
Asteroid 135268 Haigneres is named after Claudie and her husband.
