The Tarakaniv Fort, or New Dubenskaya Fortress, is one of the most interesting places in the Rivne region, which for travelers has become the most mystical in Ukraine.

“The fort got its mystical name from the village of Tarakanov, near which, in fact, it is located. This incredible place surprises not only with legends, but also with its scope. That there is only a tunnel located under the outer walls, about 100 meters long. Today we can see only the ruins left over from the once majestic fortress,”the message says.
The fortress was built in the 19th century to protect the western borders of the Russian Empire. During the First World War, the Russians decided that they did not really need the fort - they surrendered the fort to the Poles almost without a fight. But then they changed their minds. As a result, the fort, destroyed by its own artillery, was recaptured.
During the Second World War, the New Dubenskaya Fortress was surrendered to another enemy - already the Nazi invaders.

According to legends, the Germans tested secret weapons in this place. There are also rumors that the fort has turned into a place where ghosts live. They may be based on the fact that a lot of soldiers died here at the beginning of the 20th century.
