In July 1952, UFOs flew over the Washington Capitol and the White House for a week. Hundreds of people were witnesses, there are dozens of photographs and meters of filmed films. The event, the reliability of which no one doubts, went down in the history of ufology as the "Washington carousel" (see also riddles in history).

Attack on Washington

On July 19, 1952, at 11:40 pm, seven objects appeared on the radar screen of the Washington airport. Objects did not fly along the corridors established for aircraft, did not keep the formation, moved in jerks and made the most unthinkable turns. Dispatcher Edward Nagent reported to Chief Dispatcher Harry Barnes: “Sir, I have a group of seven objects on radar. Requests are not answered. According to my information, there are no planes in the sky. And … sir, it doesn't look like airplanes."

Barnes contacted the tower dispatcher: "Do you see them on your radars?" - "Yes, sir. And not only on radars, we observe them visually "-" And what is it? " "It looks like bright yellow beads of light moving towards the city center." The administrative center of Washington is the Capitol, the heart of America.

Barnes immediately contacted Andrew Air Force Base: "Guys, do you know that there is a group of objects flying towards Washington?" "Yes, we've been running them for 20 minutes already." “Well, scratch yourself, they will soon be right over the city. If these are Russian missiles, then all of us will be unhappy."

The air force sergeant on duty at the base said nothing to the dumb civilian. It could not have been Russian rockets: where have you seen rockets dramatically changing speed, altitude and trajectory, making sharp turns at 90 degrees? There were no such missiles then. But there were objects! They were recorded by all radars, they flew over the Bolling Air Force Base, dozens of people saw them with their own eyes.

At 3:00, two F-94 Starfire fighters took off from Nycastle Air Force Base. However, the pilots did not find any UFOs in the indicated area. The objects disappeared as soon as the fighters took off from the airfield. The planes patrolled the space until they ran out of fuel. When the fighters left the sky, the UFOs returned.

For 6 hours, luminous balls flew over Washington, constantly hovering over the Capitol, then over the White House. Hundreds of people took to the streets and clicked the shutters of their cameras. The last time a UFO appeared on radar screens was at 5:30 am.

Return

On July 26, everything repeated. At 20:15, the UFOs spotted radar radars at Washington Airport and Andrew Air Force Base, and were observed by pilots, flight attendants and passengers on the National Airlines liner en route to Washington. At 21:30, white glowing balls flew over the city again, hovering, then dashing at speeds up to 11.000 km / h.

Reporters from leading newspapers scurried about the streets of Washington, and journalists from television and radio companies prepared reports from the scene.

At 11:20 pm, two fighters appeared in the sky over Washington. One of the pilots, having noticed 4 objects, decided to pursue them. However, from a pursuer he himself turned into a "game": UFOs surrounded him, organizing a kind of "escort" for the flying fighter. However, there was no tragedy: the "parrot" of the pilot, the objects flew away.

At 01:00, Major Fourne arrived at base Andrew with leading radar experts. The conclusion of the specialists was depressing: these are not atmospheric disturbances, these are solid objects, up to 40m. in diameter.

The fighters were raised again. And again, as soon as the fighters appeared in the given area, the UFOs left it, and as soon as the planes left for the base, the UFOs returned. The "show" lasted the whole night, only by morning the "air visitors" had left Washington alone.

Pentagon: there were no UFOs

Descriptions of the events of July 19-26 occupied the front pages of American newspapers: unknown objects are flying over Washington, over the Capitol, over the White House, and the valiant Air Force cannot do anything about it, they just look at their radar screens and helplessly throw up their hands!

To calm the raging passions, the Pentagon organized a press conference on July 29 with the participation of Air Force Intelligence Director John Samford. The general assured the agitated population that the observed phenomena were the result of reversals of air currents and did not pose any danger.

Samford's explanation did not satisfy anyone. Pilots, dispatchers and airport employees, numerous eyewitnesses who observed UFOs - no one believed in the far-fetched version. The military themselves did not believe in it either, issuing on July 29 a secret order for the Air Force pilots: if they found "flying saucers", pursue them, force them to land, and in case of insubordination, shoot them down.

Officially, however, the Pentagon stubbornly adhered to the "nothing happened." The journalists made the correct conclusion: the military will not tell the truth.

The Pentagon also drew conclusions from everything that happened: since 1954, all cases of UFO encounters have become a matter of national security. Now all the materials about such events that took place were placed in folders bearing the stamp "top secret, not subject to disclosure."
