Not far from the coast of Oman, scientists found a ship that wrecked back in 1503. The remains of the ship "Esmeralda" were found in the Gubbat al-Rahib Bay, which is located on the southeast coast of Oman.
As it turned out, the captain of the sunken ship was the uncle of the famous navigator Vasco da Gama - Portuguese Vice Admiral Vicente Sodri. This news was shared by the AP agency.
The operation to find the vessel and raise the values was carried out by specialists from the British company Blue Water Recoveries in conjunction with representatives of the Ministry of Culture of Oman. It should be noted that the expedition, which began back in 2013, was the first of its kind for an Asian country, since previously Omani scientists had no experience in marine archeology.
Among the valuable finds are stone cannonballs, a bell, ceramics, and an unusually rare silver coin called "indio", it exists on the planet in a single copy.
Sodri and his team participated in the campaign of the 4th Indian Armada of Portugal, which took place in 1502. In the spring of 1503, there was a strong storm in the area of the Curia-Muria islands, which was hit by the ship "Esmeralda". The ship sank along with the crew and Vice Admiral Vicente Sodri.
