American doctors replaced the stomach, liver, spleen, intestines, part of the esophagus and pancreas in a young patient

American doctors performed a real miracle. They transplanted six organs to a nine-year-old girl. The doctors replaced the stomach, liver, spleen, intestines, part of the esophagus and pancreas for the young patient

The girl's health problems began at the age of 5. Doctors discovered she had a tumor - a rare form of sarcoma. Chemotherapy proved to be ineffective and the doctors decided to undergo surgery. We waited a long time for donor organs from a child of the same age.

Debi Skolas, grandmother of the operated girl: “She has a very weak immune system. Even after they started taking antibiotics, my face was swollen. But now everything is over. We waited 15 months and finally got lucky. We got organs. But all over the country there are thousands of people with the same problems and they may not wait for the transplant."

According to the surgeons, the most difficult thing was to remove the affected organs and the tumor. The operation lasted 14 hours and became the largest in the United States for the simultaneous transplantation of such a number of organs and the first in the world for an esophageal transplant. The rehabilitation lasted for three months. The girl's body fought infection and complications. She has now returned home.
