The study of death, as is known, can be accompanied by discoveries that are of value to life, as confirmed by biologists who have studied the phenomenon known as the "death spiral", and which is the phase of the existence of a biological organism prior to its death.
“In considering the death spiral, we focused on fruit flies, which, despite the fact that evolutionarily not very close to us, sometimes exhibit the same features as humans. It is just that because of their short life expectancy, it is much more convenient to observe them,”the biologists say.
By observing the flies, scientists found that just before their biological mechanisms reached their calculated time to stop functioning, the insects began to behave in a somewhat unusual way. For example, female flies stopped laying eggs. Moreover, without any visible prerequisites for this.
The existence of the “death spiral” is also confirmed by statistical data covering observations of the well-being of many thousands of elderly people who, shortly before death, showed significant deterioration in physical and cognitive abilities.
