On the beach in St. Petersburg, Florida, millions of small black sea snails were found in elongated shells.
The video was filmed on November 11, and it can be seen that snails have literally covered part of the beach. A short video was posted by one of the local residents. On the recording, he walks quickly along the beach and snail shells crunch under his feet. The end of the black "snail" strip is not even visible.
“I grew up in Florida and spent most of my life on the beaches and in the water,” writes the author of the video, Robert Neff, in a commentary to the recording. “But I have never seen anything like it or heard from anyone what it was before.
These snails are mollusks of the Cerithiidae family. They go on land extremely rarely, and in such quantities it is generally an unprecedented case. They usually inhabit shallow waters and reefs in warm ocean waters.
The exact location of the snails at St. Petersburg Beach south of Fort DeSoto North Beach. There is a natural bird sanctuary nearby. According to Neff, the snails appeared on the beach after one of the tides.
