For decades, the Red Planet has been a tasty morsel for earth scientists. Deep down, we all dream of one day setting foot on the surface of Mars, but so far only a lone rover, Curiosity, plows its endless expanses. The planet is regularly photographed from orbit by several research vehicles, one of which is the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. Based on photos from his HiRISE camera, the talented Finnish director Jan Freudman created an amazing video of a flight over the surface of a planet that is still inaccessible to us. It took Freudman three months to process over 50,000 high-resolution stereoscopic images and then create a mesmerizing video of the flight over the surface of Mars from them. Meditative music only complements an already impressive picture. The photographs were originally black and white, so the director had to recolor them by hand, based on images from other orbiters. So, frame by frame, Jan combined the images with each other until a video of the flight over the surface of Mars came out of them. Agree that he turned out very, very impressive?
