Chinese and American scientists have suggested what physical process can be accompanied by fast radio bursts - single powerful radio pulses, one of the explanations for which is considered to be the activity of aliens.
Experts believe that fast radio bursts are generated by superconducting cosmic strings - relict one-dimensional folds of space-time. Such objects contain matter, which can behave like a giant antenna, emitting powerful electromagnetic signals.
The radiation parameters of hypothetical superconducting strings, according to the authors, fit into the observed characteristics of fast radio bursts reaching the Earth. Scientists note that long-term astronomical observations are needed to test their hypothesis.
The first fast radio pulse was detected in 2001 by a radio telescope in Australia, the data from which was processed only by 2007. Since then, the existence of about 20 such signals has been confirmed. Scientists believe their likely source, in particular, is a neutron star or aliens.
