A global pandemic is approaching that could kill nearly a billion people, apocalyptic heralds argue.
Christian conspiracy theorists analyzed a recent study from Germany, which said a virus attack could kill about one billion people.
In a simulation conducted at Johns Hopkins University, the pathogen acted similarly to SARS and showed how difficult it is to control the outbreak.
The virus caused fever, coughing and confusion in those infected. It later mutated in patients and caused encephalitis - cerebral edema - which left people in a fatal coma.
According to simulations, after 20 months, the hard-to-cure virus has killed over 150 million people - and there is no way to create a vaccine.
Dr. Eric Toner, senior fellow for global health security at the Johns Hopkins Center and developer of the Clade X simulation, said: "If efforts to create a vaccine are unsuccessful, 900 million or nearly 10 percent of the world's people could be killed."
The simulations were as realistic as possible, with a disease that could exist and incorporating the technology and knowledge we have today.
Now, some Christian groups believe that the study was a harbinger of a real event that was noted in the Bible.
