With a shudder, Kaney, a Washington State resident, recalls the strange and frightening month she spent in 1998 at the Cascade Academy in Cedro Woolley. At that time she was only 16 years old, and the seemingly beautiful well-equipped Academy building with huge auditoriums filled with cheerful and happy students should have delighted the young girl. However, she felt uncomfortable, very worried and tried to convince herself that it was just nerves.

Together with her group, she went to the hostel, where she unpacked her things and looked around. The first things she noticed were long, hospital-like corridors with flickering lights, rooms with combination locks and a shared toilet room. The large room contains three bunk beds and three high chests of drawers. It was very stuffy, the air was stale and humid. The only window overlooking the courtyard was fitted with steel bars. The girl began to unpack her things with great reluctance.

“On the first night, I woke up at 2 o'clock when the lamp turned on. I turned my head to see which of my neighbors turned on the light, but everyone was fast asleep. My heart sank into my stomach. I got up to turn off the lamp when movement outside the window caught my attention. I looked into the yard and very clearly saw that a girl in a night robe and a boy in a shirt and brown trousers were playing with a red ball - at this time the girl sleeping next to me began to rush about in her sleep. "I tried to wake her up to show her what I saw, but when I looked out the window, the yard was empty."

Scared to death, the girl did not sleep a wink all night. In the morning she did not tell anyone anything and tried to forget about the ghosts of the previous night. She fell asleep immediately after class and woke up again in the middle of the night.

“I woke up at about two and went out into the dark corridor. A light flickered in the toilet room, and I felt that someone was watching me. I got out of there as quickly as I could - the girl lingered at the drinking fountain and, when she leaned over to the stream of water, felt that someone came up from behind. - I was sincerely grateful to this person that now I am not alone. I gestured "one minute" so that he knew that I see him, but when after a moment I raised my head up, there was no one there."

The girl hurried to her room and saw that her neighbor was also awake. She was terrified because she was awakened by the click of the lamp on. The girls got into conversation and agreed not to leave the room alone at night.

The girl who was restlessly tossed about in her sleep also added to the fear. Often at night she got out of bed and walked around the room, talked to herself, and sometimes stood for 10 minutes over the sleeping girls. But the next morning, she couldn't remember anything.

“I felt very bad, from the constant lack of sleep, I felt dizzy and fell right in the classroom. Within a month at school, I developed severe anemia. I knew I had to leave,”- much later, Kaney, who never returned there, learned that the dorm building was very old and that there was an abandoned cemetery behind it.
