In Belize, archaeologists have discovered the tomb of the Mayan monarch. This is the largest find in the last hundred years of excavations in this country.

The burial was found among the ruins of the ancient city of Shunantunich on the Mopan River, according to The Guardian. In the last centuries of the flourishing of the Mayan civilization (600-800 years), this city was a major religious center.

Excavating the central staircase of a large structure, archaeologists discovered a grave at a depth of six to eight meters. In the burial, scientists found the remains of the monarch, steles with hieroglyphs, shedding light on the history of the Serpent dynasty, and various treasures.

The tomb contained the bones of fallow deer and jaguars, obsidian knives, ceramic vessels, jade beads and the remains of a man. His age is 20-30 years. Scientists still find it difficult to name the cause of the monarch's death. Preliminary analysis revealed no signs of serious illness or fatal injury. The man was healthy and well muscled.

The found tomb is unique. It was not attached to a temple, palace or any other structure. The tomb was immediately laid down in the building plan. This was done in Ancient Egypt. The hieroglyphs on the panels in the tomb allowed historians to find out a number of previously unknown facts about the Serpent dynasty. They were erected by order of Prince Kan II in 642. They tell of the death of his mother and the monarch Vaksaklahuune Uba Kane, who ruled from 630 to 640.

Also, the hieroglyphs say that the Serpent dynasty appeared on the Yucatan Peninsula in the city of Tsibanche. And then she settled in the city of Calakmul. How these inscriptions appeared in Shunantunich - scientists do not yet reliably know. Perhaps this city was for some time under the protectorate of the Serpent dynasty.
