It is widely believed that paranormal phenomena are rare in prisons. Allegedly, conditions in prisons are too inappropriate for spirits and ghosts. However, a huge number of cases indicate the opposite. The infamous English Tower Castle, which in the old days was a special prison for political prisoners, including royalty and noble people, has long been famous for its ghosts. In 1483, within the walls of the Tower, two heirs to the throne were secretly executed - Edward the Fifth, (at the age of 12), and his younger brother, Richard of York.

As a result, for two centuries ghosts of two children walked through the halls of the palace, holding hands. As evidenced by the surviving sources, in the second half of the 17th century, bricklayers who were carrying out repair work accidentally stumbled upon a niche with the remains of two children immured in it. The remains were found by order of King Charles II, in accordance with religious canons, were interred in Westminster Abbey. After that, no one came across this mysterious couple in the Tower.

For quite a long time, the ghost of the unfortunate Anne Boleyn, who was one of the wives of the bloodthirsty Henry the Eighth, also interfered with the guests of the Tower. Due to an undeserved slander from her heartless husband, she was put in a prison cell. And then on May 19, 1536, she was publicly executed by chopping off her head.

After that, the ghost of Anna was seen in many places of this castle, in the main tower, in the cell in which she spent the rest of her days, next to the scaffold, where she was executed. Often the ghost of the queen appeared headless. One day, a guard accidentally noticed that light was leaking through the shutters of the closed chapel of St. Peter. The surprised guard climbed up the stairs using the stairs, and saw a ghostly ceremony inside the room. A woman walked in front, in her the minister recognized Queen Anne, whom he had previously seen in the portraits. Then the ghosts seemed to melt into thin air. And when the floors in the church were raised, the remains of 200 people were found under the heavy slabs, including the poor queen.
