The two-story brick house Ludwell Paradise on Gloucester Street, Williamsburg, USA, has been empty for a long time. This building, an example of stately 18th century architecture, hides behind its walls more than just a beautiful appearance.
Since the previous owner of the house, Lucy Ludwell, died in the early 1800s, locals have begun to report hearing the sound of running water in the upstairs bathroom despite the house being empty, and seeing a vague silhouette in the windows.
Bonnie Florek, the owner of the travel company Spooks and Legends, told reporters that the former owner of the house, Lucy, was a wealthy woman with some oddities - she very often loved to take a bath. The woman was eventually admitted to the city's mental hospital, where she died under mysterious circumstances. Locals believe that it was her spirit that returned to the house and now lives there.
Today, Ludwell's ghost story is one of many that attracts tourists to the region. For each tour group, the guides offer unique excursion elements - costumes, ghost detection equipment, and open access to areas of the house that are usually closed to the public.
Travel companies operate all year round providing tours throughout Williamsburg for tourists. According to Florek, they are faced with very strange situations.
So, during the costume shows for visitors, he and his colleagues more than once encountered the presence of someone otherworldly - for example, the hall was getting colder. Also, the guides were faced with the fact that someone moved their costumes when the participants in the performance left the dressing room.
Lucy's tragic story tells that she was married and lived most of her family life in London. After her husband's death, she returned to the Williamsburg home and led an eccentric lifestyle, believing that she was the representative of the royal family.
