It's hard to believe in the reality of the existence of ghosts. But they constantly remind of themselves - with strange sounds, sighs, blurred outlines in the dark. They say that these are the restless souls of the dead who cannot go to eternal rest.
But not all of us are trying to get around the habitats of ghosts. Many, on the contrary, strive to meet them in order to throw out a hefty portion of adrenaline. Further, the most famous places in Ukraine, which are considered the abode of ghosts.
National Museum of the History of Medicine
Kiev, st. B. Khmelnitsky, 37
In this building, built in 1853 by the famous architect Beretti, in the 19th century there was an anatomical theater of the Medical Faculty of St. Volodymyr University (now the T. Shevchenko University of Kiev, the former medical faculty of which "grew" into the A. Bogomolets Medical University). There was also a city morgue with a glacier, in which the remains of unidentified corpses were kept. Later, the "no-man's" dead were walled up in the base of the building.
And when, at the end of the 20th century, these burials were opened, some of the corpses were mummified. By the way, it was in this morgue that Nikolai Turbin, the hero of Bulgakov's novel The White Guard, was looking for the body of Colonel Nai-Tours. Being here, it seems that hundreds of eyes are looking at you from the darkness. And at night in the museum you can hear sighs, whispers and quiet crying. And someone's shadows are visible.

Richard the Lionheart Castle
Kiev, Andreevsky descent, 15
The building was built in 1904 by order of Dmitry Orlov, a wealthy resident of Kiev. He used it as an apartment building - he rented out rooms. But after Orlov was shot in 1911, the guests of the castle began to hear an eerie groan and howl, which intensified in windy weather, which is why no one lingered in these apartments for a long time.
Ghostbusters offered to demolish the "demonic" house. But the Kiev historian Stepan Golubev put forward his own, completely "human" version of the origin of violent nocturnal sounds. In his opinion, the builders of the building, after a conflict with the owner, as revenge, "mounted" eggshells into the fireplaces, which makes strange sounds in the wind. However, not everyone believed the historian. And until now, Richard's castle is considered a habitat of ghosts. And the poetic name of the building, built in the style of British Gothic, was given by the writer Viktor Nekrasov.
Nicholas Cathedral
Chernivtsi, st. Russian, 35
The unique church, built in 1939, is a copy of the 11th century Romanian temple. in Curtea de Arges. Its peculiarity is the unusually located altar - to the right of the entrance, and not opposite it, as is customary. Even in this temple, small domes are twisted in a spiral, which is why the people call it the "drunken church".
There is a legend that the church was built by a "bad" priest, and something was breaking and falling in it all the time, and the construction time was delayed. And then an evil spirit came to the priest and suggested that the matter would be disputed if a woman who was the first to cross its threshold was immured into the wall of the temple. At lunchtime, mother came - the wife of the priest, who suffered a terrible fate. While they were walled up, she sobbed so much that even the turrets were twisted. For many decades, at night in the church, one can hear the crying of mother, and under the domes a transparent black shadow flies - that very “bad” father begging for forgiveness for his sin.
Dominican Cathedral

The building was built in 1764, the author of the project is the commandant of the Kamyanets-Podolsk fortress, an outstanding Polish engineer of Dutch origin Jan de Witte. Here was the main cathedral of the Roman Catholic monastery, in Soviet times - the museum of the history of religion, and now - the Greek Catholic Church. They say that at midnight you can hear services in an incomprehensible language and the clatter of a typewriter. And at night a translucent ghost of a Dominican monk wanders in the cathedral. Because of these oddities, many night watchmen quit after their first watch.
Podgoretsky castle
S. Pidhirtsi, Brody district, Lviv region.
Built as part of the defense complex in 1640 with funds from the Polish magnate Konetspolsky. It was one of the best palace and castle complexes in Europe. It was built in the shape of a square with a side of 100 m. The history of the ghosts that inhabit this castle has been known for hundreds of years. A few years ago, during restoration work, a translucent silhouette of a man was recorded in the inner chambers.
Bald mountain
Kiev, st. Saperno-Slobodskaya
One of the most mystical places in Ukraine, where, it is believed, evil spirits from all over the world arrange their Sabbaths. The name "Bald" comes from an ancient pagan ritual of sacrifice - this action could be performed only on a mountain cleared of trees.
There are many secret passages underground, left over from an ancient defensive fort. In Soviet times, a military unit was located at this place. But the military was not here for long. After all, many soldiers, especially at noon and midnight, felt very bad. And ghosts seemed to roam the dungeons. There are strange shadows on Bald Mountain even now. They say that if at midnight you touch the sacrificial stone, on which the heads of the victims were chopped off thousands of years ago, you will be pushed away from it with "bad" energy, as if it would shock you.
Uzhgorod castle
Uzhgorod, st. Kapitulnaya, 33
This very old building has been known since the 9th century. Then it was a wooden fortress. In the XI century, it turned into an impregnable stone stronghold. And at the end of the 16th century, Italian engineers carried out a complete reconstruction of the building, applying the most modern achievements of the European fortification art. In Soviet times, a local history museum was located in the castle.
From about the middle of the 19th century, rumors spread around Uzhgorod that a ghost was wandering in the courtyard of the castle - the spirit of the daughter of one of the commandants. The girl, according to legend, during the siege gave the enemy the secret of the dungeons there. Upon learning of the betrayal, her father ordered her daughter to be immured alive in the castle wall. Since then, the beauty several times a year comes out of her eternal confinement at night and wanders around the courtyard with sighs until morning.
