In 2004, the sounds recorded from the giant planet were mistaken for alien negotiations

Station "Cassini", which went on its last journey, dived under the rings of Saturn. Flying on April 26, 2017 over the surface of the gas giant, she recorded sounds. NASA made them public. And he assures: perhaps this is the sound of charged particles that create electromagnetic waves.

An apparatus called the Radio and Plasma Wave Science instrument (RPWS) would also register the crackle of tiny pieces of ice or dust particles that crash into the station's antenna. But I didn't register. To the surprise of experts, the space between the surface of Saturn's cloud layer and its inner ring turned out to be suspiciously empty. "The big empty" - that's how they described him.

But the sounds of Saturn, recorded today, were not very surprising. They didn't seem fancy. Not like 15 years ago, when research was just beginning.

The first sounds were caught back in April 2002, when the Cassini station was 374 million kilometers from Saturn. The signals were modulated in frequency in the range from 50 to 500 kHz, they went in series and in different tones.

The most notable entry was made on July 25, 2004, in the immediate vicinity of the rings of Saturn. NASA specialists translated it into a frequency range that is visible to the human ear. But it was not made public immediately, but for some reason several years later. They say, solely in order to show: look with what funny sounds the local space is filled with. The answer was a wave of conspiracy suspicions.

The enthusiasts have shifted - by several octaves - the tonality of the recorded sounds. And they suddenly became like someone's speech. It was as if some inhuman voice was broadcasting. If desired, one could even make out individual words uttered, as the enthusiasts assumed, by an alien who flew here in his ship.

The mysterious radio signals were captured and recorded using the same RPWS equipment. NASA, of course, didn't think they were reasonable. It was assumed that the electromagnetic oscillations were most likely generated by the flares of Saturn's aurora borealis. Or meteors that crash into the ice rings of the giant planet and disturb the electromagnetic fields. But then there was evidence that the source of the sounds was somewhere near Saturn, which again fueled suspicions of the activities of aliens. According to the plan of the so-called Great End (Grand Finale), the Cassini station should fall on Saturn on September 15, 2017, and before that - Fly 22 times over its clouds, diving into a 2000 km gap under the rings. Each "dive" will bring new knowledge about the planet's electromagnetic background and, possibly, new sounds.

The first time the station flew under the rings on April 26, the second time on May 2.
