If extraterrestrial supercivilization could and wanted to capture us, it would have already happened
Aliens are unlikely to come to colonize our planet, and not because aliens do not exist or they do not know about earthlings. On the contrary, humanity, most likely, has long attracted the attention of representatives of alien civilizations, and if they wanted to take over our planet, they would have done so long ago. This opinion was expressed by Seth Shostak, one of the leading employees of the Search for Extraterrestrial Civilizations (SETI), commenting on the speech of the famous physicist Stephen Hawking.
Last week, theoretical physicist and renowned expert on black holes Stephen Hawking said that, from his point of view, humanity should not try too actively to get in touch with aliens. As the scientist said, astrophysicists should continue the search for extraterrestrial civilizations, however, if these searches are successful, "hide" so as not to allow alien invaders to find the Earth and turn it into their own colony, while earthlings, in a sense, will be in the role of Indians after of how the Europeans sailed to America.
Seth Shostak bases his position on the fact that a civilization capable of intergalactic travel possesses significantly more advanced technologies than modern Earth, therefore, their methods of collecting information about the outside world should also be incomparably more advanced. Thus, if our planet could interest aliens as a source of resources, the signals coming from the Earth would not change anything - the aliens would easily find our planet in search of these resources themselves and, if they needed it, would have arrived long ago and took them away. On the other hand, if the radio signals could be of interest to potential aliens for research reasons - it is too late for humanity to hide - thanks to television and radio broadcasts, they have already scattered over a distance of more than 80 light-years from Earth in all directions,and it shouldn't be difficult for truly technically advanced aliens to "catch" them. Again, if in this case representatives of extraterrestrial civilizations have not yet arrived to us, this means either that they are not capable of this, or that the Earth simply did not interest them enough.
It is worth noting that today the overwhelming majority of scientists agree that it is unlikely that aliens will ever visit Earth - even if they exist, they know about us and would like to get in touch, most likely they would prefer some other way of telling a personal visit. about yourself - faster, cheaper and easier to implement than a direct visit.
