The international research association "Cosmopoisk" today began searching for a mysterious object that fell into Lake Vygozero on December 2 in Karelia and does not exclude a version of a UFO crash similar to the one that happened about 50 years ago in the republic.

As the members of the expedition reported, on December 9 they arrived in the Segezha region, where the search will be carried out, and began preparing the equipment. The next day, the first diving under the ice of the lake is planned, where the object is supposedly located.

According to the head of the expedition, Vadim Chernobrov, the researchers will check all possible versions of the causes of the incident, which left a wormwood about 15 meters in diameter on the ice. Among such versions - a meteorite fall, a rocket debris, a gas release, as well as a UFO fall.

According to Chernobrov, the version of the UFO is fueled by a mysterious story that happened about half a century ago on Lake Korpozero in the Loukhsky region of Karelia. The circumstances of that incident are very similar to what happened at Vygozero.

“A similar incident happened many years ago. It happened in winter, - said the leader of the expedition. - Which body fell at an acute angle. None of the vehicles known to me could do this - it could cut tens of meters of the frozen coast, and in the north this land is like concrete, about a thousand cubic meters, then drag this frozen land, breaking the ice. Divers descended under the ice and found some strange substance on the lower surface of the ice, which has not yet been identified. Not biological, not engine oil - something unparalleled. And this Korpozero repeats itself in half a century. And of course, we cannot miss the chance to check if this is an analogue of that strange event."

The members of the expedition invite volunteers to join them, primarily those who are ready to conduct their own instrumental research on site or participate in a general research program.
