The hosts of the popular British supernatural radio program "Apparition Audition" recently received a curious question from one of their listeners. It sounded like this: why are there no fat ghosts?
Despite the fact that the question is not too serious and deserves perhaps a comic answer, the specialists turned out to be really interested in them and talked about this topic for more than half an hour, and quite seriously.
And indeed: why do immigrants from the other world always or almost always appear before the living in the form of thin figures? First, of course, there were a few jokes in the studio. So, Derek Wilkinson said: "Because fat people are usually kind and go straight to heaven." And his colleague Lydia Watson said: "The thing is, ghosts can't eat." However, then the presenters decided to discuss this issue in more detail.
Is thinness the norm for ghosts?
On the air, a theory was put forward that since obesity is a physical disease, then it should not strike the spirit of the individual. In addition, excess obesity became a serious problem for mankind only at the end of the last millennium, while most of the known ghosts living in ancient castles and abandoned cemeteries appeared many centuries ago. And, finally, the British expressed the opinion that ghosts consist of ectoplasm, and the fuller the figure of a phantom, the more he needs this substance in order to materialize in our world. For this reason, ghosts, they say, prefer to take on a slender shape, even if it did not match their appearance during life.
It is noteworthy that our resource at least twice published photographs of fat people from their grave. One of them was received in September 2015 by a trucker from the Irish city of Cork. The driver accidentally filmed a translucent figure through the windshield of his truck, resembling a plump woman in a swimsuit. It happened in broad daylight on a busy road near the tunnel, where traffic accidents often occur.

The second photo was taken in the middle of last month by one of the users of the site "Reddit". The man was heading in the evening with his comrades to the place where a major shootout had taken place the day before. Friends walked along a country road and lit their way with flashlights. Then they heard that someone was walking behind the group. The friends turned around and photographed the empty space behind them. Subsequently, a fat, whitish figure of a man appeared in this image.
So the obligatory thinness of ghosts is a controversial issue and, probably, as insoluble as many others concerning the paranormal …
