In the tense atmosphere of life at the beginning of the 21st century, the need for new approaches to many values is increasingly felt. New thinking long ago began to emerge in the mysterious depths of the last twentieth century and to take shape on the fields of its social, political and historical battles. Today writers and scientists, mass media speak louder about the need for a new outlook on the world.
We have entered a period of difficult trials, we are increasingly tormented by such problems as interethnic and interregional conflicts, the growth of crime and aggression, rampant inflation, unemployment, property stratification, social insecurity, widespread destruction of the environment, the struggle for our human and social rights …
Today we are also witnessing the degradation of society and personality, complete loss of morality, disintegration of the family, loneliness, more and more terrible forms of cruelty. And against the background of these worries, apparently due to the laws of human psychology, the consciousness of many still does not fully understand the simple truth that at any moment our concern for our daily bread can become meaningless, hot political passions and disputes about rights will lose all meaning, social justice and equality, because the worst thing can happen overnight - the equality of all before death.
Our society in today's bustle seems to have forgotten, pushed aside the most important problem - the physical survival of mankind. What is happening in the world today: the destruction of the environment, the extensive development of the economy, senseless aggressiveness, complete cultural savagery, loss of morality - is leading humanity to death. It destroys itself without hesitation.
There is an understanding that we are at the edge. How to be saved? How to survive? Self-destruction of mankind can happen overnight if a nuclear or bacteriological war breaks out, although now there are positive processes in the world that give us hope for reducing this threat.
But if, even after avoiding a nuclear catastrophe, AIDS, epidemics and other global dangers, people do not learn to live in harmony with nature and with each other, if environmental pollution continues, the destruction of the gene pool, self-destruction of humanity will turn into a process of slow and painful degradation and subsequent death …

This became especially clear in our time - at the beginning of the XXI century, after many years some semblance of our well-being was built on the fact that we, as careless heirs, squandered the state we inherited from our ancestors - the natural resources of the Earth. And for all this, retribution is inevitable.
The last quarter of the last twentieth century, our present days, is a long series of warnings, forcing humanity to come to its senses, so that the new century does not overwhelm us with a stream of new most difficult problems, does not lead humanity to death. Therefore, the time has come to revise many values, develop a new outlook, understand that today the history of mankind is going through an era of transition from one living standard to another.
The man of the XXI century, who achieved tremendous success in the scientific and technical field, considered himself the crown of creation, the crown of the planet, not bearing any responsibility for his activities. But in reality, the emergence of a high civilization of the XX and XXI centuries did not enrich humanity. The basic properties of consciousness have not changed over the past century.
The human mind has stepped far forward - he created miracles of technology, but the human heart remained at the level of the Stone Age. For harmony, a perfect technique, so as not to harm people, requires a perfect person, but right now - at the end of the past and at the beginning of the new century - a new type of dark people has arisen, with higher education, who are professionals in their field, capable of making the most complex calculations, but at the same time they are completely ignorant in the general cultural sense and soulless.
According to the strictest calculations of scientists, no waste-free technologies and other environmental measures, with all their absolute and vital necessity, are no longer able to create harmony in the relationship between man and nature. Given the current imbalance between production and consumption, these actions will only buy time.
Much more is needed to change the situation in this area. It is necessary to radically transform not only activity, but also human consciousness. And such a transformation cannot be started without a sufficiently holistic, comprehensive concept of what we call the place of man in the Universe.
The main thing in this case is to discern, to reveal how people form an idea of what is good and what is bad, since it is precisely such criteria that ultimately determine the choice of behavior that a person has to create at the present time, to reveal the peculiarities of our outlook, evolution of our consciousness.
How do we understand evolution today? The dialectical law of evolutionary development, known since ancient times, first formulated by Hegel, is called the law of negation of negation. According to this law, the new is always well forgotten old, it is a return to an already passed stage of development. However, this is not a simple return, but repetition at a higher level. The endless repetition of cycles, their sequence that make up the chain of development, can be represented as a spiral.
In search of a new understanding of the world, we are looking for analogues with the past. When did a person start looking for a way out into the open system of the Cosmos from the closed system of the Earth? We find the origins of these searches in Ancient Greece, which created a culture with amazing harmony, integrity and unity, firmly connected with the Cosmos, proclaiming the equality of man with the gods.
The origins of European civilization lie in ancient Greece, our civilization has never broken ties with its culture. In our time, at a new turn of the spiral, we see that today it is humanism, which originated in Greek culture, that is destined to find a way out of the modern crisis situations in the life of human society.
Each preceding century carried its own evolutionary burden. But the twentieth century and the beginning of our twenty-first century had a special one, akin to the one experienced by cosmonauts, overcoming gravity. The inexorable law of evolution - the unity of the past, present and future - continues to operate today, but no century has known such a close contact between the past and the future.
The main contradiction in the evolutionary development of society and human consciousness is the opposition between unification and separation. The law of evolutionary development wanted to place its critical point precisely at the turn of the XX and XXI centuries. Development went on and is going from separation to unification. And right now this contradiction is being resolved.
According to the outstanding scientist of the twentieth century N. Vernadsky, the forces of unification are ethized and spiritualized thought, culture, changes in social relations, improvement of communication and information, the increasing intensity of communication between peoples, that is, factors that contribute to the transformation of human communities into a single humanity. And the forces of separation are wars, violence, destruction, aggression - everything that prevents people from uniting.
In the XXI century, the main line of evolution runs through the opposition of these forces. At the same time, in our century, evolution, according to the laws of its development, revealed a clear tendency to accelerate, and its main opposition - to aggravation. The most important factor in this acceleration and aggravation is in our time the person himself.
