The last mystery of the 20th century is the incredible event that happened on the island of Flannan. Today nobody lives here, it seems that even wild animals have gone.
One year lighthouse
In December 1899, a lighthouse was opened here, which, according to the instructions, had to be served simultaneously by three people. Another lived at the coastal station and from time to time replaced one of the caretakers.

During the tragedy, there were three at the scene - Thomas Marshall (deputy superintendent), James Ducat (second deputy superintendent) and Donald MacArthur (assistant). The chief caretaker himself, Joseph Moore, left the lighthouse three weeks before the event, this was done according to the current instructions, so no one noticed anything suspicious.
In general, this kind of work is quite difficult, the people working at the lighthouse must be very balanced and sane. However, all those who remained on the island were just like that.

11 days of waiting
On December 15, 1900, a message arrived - the signal lights were not lit on the lighthouse. Strange, but no action was taken regarding this message. Moreover, the flight to the island, scheduled for the next day, was canceled due to the raging storm. The chief caretaker and his team were able to arrive on the island only 11 days later. As expected, no one met them.
Other oddities were also discovered. All the caretakers' belongings were in place, and their beds were left unmade. Moreover, the mechanical clock stopped and the dining table was turned over. All three seemed to be leading normal lives when their peace was suddenly disturbed.
The last entry was made in the morning of December 15, it reported that a violent storm reigns in the sea. It is surprising that neither ships passing near the island nor coastal stations registered any storm at the indicated time. However, in the eastern part of Flannan, in some places metal railings were torn from the concrete base, which confirmed the fact of the raging elements.
How the caretakers disappeared
Moore himself believed that his colleagues were carried away by a huge wave. Only in this case, the men violated the accepted rule, according to which it is strictly forbidden for everyone to leave office. Of course, versions immediately appeared with the participation of otherworldly forces or aliens who carried away the workers. Or the fact that one of them went crazy, then killed his comrades and rushed into the sea.
The main version remains that the rangers were washed away by the wave. The third caretaker jumped out into the street to inform others about the impending disaster, but did not have time, the element was faster.
