Until relatively recently, we believed that there is no one smarter than dolphins in the seas and oceans, and all the stories about mermaids and other humanoid underwater creatures are just an invention of our superstitious ancestors. However, it turned out that there are mermaids and other much more terrifying humanoids under the water.

Bermuda Triangle Monster

The well-known author of the books "The Bermuda Triangle" and "Without a Trace" C. Berlitz believes that representatives of an underwater civilization not yet discovered by us can inhabit the underwater caves in the area of the ominous triangle. As one of the proofs, Berlitz cites a fragment of the report of a professional diver from Miami, who in 1968 happened to meet a terrible sea "monkey" underwater.

Here are some details of this sensational meeting. “We were at the very edge of the continental shelf,” the diver writes in the report, “south of Great Isaac Light. A special 10-meter submarine and rescue boat slowly towed me on a cable, and I examined the sandy bottom, the depth of which was 11-13 m. I was at a sufficient depth to observe the bottom in front of the boat. Suddenly I saw something rounded, like a turtle or a large fish. To see the animal, I went deeper. It turned and looked at me. It had a monkey face, a head stretched forward. The neck is significantly longer than that of turtles, and 4 times the size of a human. Looking at me, the monster, like a snake, bent its neck. His eyes, similar to human ones, were much larger. The face of the creature resembled a monkeyonly with eyes adapted to underwater life. Having looked at me at last searchingly, the creature departed, as if it was being pushed by some force."

According to Berlitz, the diver was very lucky that the monster hid in an underwater cave, because in the Bahamas there are legends about a similar creature with a snake neck, which lives under water in caves and on occasion feeds on people. It is curious that, according to many Japanese fishermen, humanoid amphibians live in the coastal waters of their country. They are called "kappa" and have a tortoise-like shell on their back. Recall that a diver in the Bermuda Triangle saw a creature similar to a turtle. Was it the same as kappa?

Mermaids are not a myth

Mentions of mermaids and mermaids can be found in the folklore of many peoples of our planet and even in ancient chronicles and books. For example, the fact is known that in 1531 a mermaid was caught in the Baltic Sea. This curiosity was immediately sent as a gift to the King of Poland Sigismund II. Alas, the captive died on the third day, but before that, the king and his court had the opportunity to examine this mysterious creature in detail.

In 1608, the mermaid was seen by sailors from the ship of Henry Hudson. They gave a description of this mysterious creature: "Her back and chest were female … her skin was very white … she had long black hair and a tail like a dolphin."

Of course, this meeting with a mermaid was not the only one, since ancient times sailors have reported sightings of such creatures. Hungry for female society, the sailors could not help but pay attention to the sea ladies.

In 1619, two Danish royal advisers who sailed to Sweden from Norway had the opportunity to observe the "sea man". Walking on deck, they saw some strange humanoid creature floating next to their ship. The sailors decided to catch him: hiding in a piece of bacon a large hook tied to a strong rope, they threw the bait into the water. The creature "took a bite" on her and was dragged onto the deck. It emitted such shrill and threatening screams that the frightened sailors threw the "sea man" back into the sea.

During a visit to Angola in 1701, the Italian missionary Father Francis expressed doubts about the reality of the mermaids, who, according to the stories of the aborigines, lived in their lake. Then, especially for him, they caught one of them with a net and brought it to the preacher's hut. The missionary examined her carefully and gave a detailed description in his diary, reporting that she died a day later. Most of all he was worried about the question: do mermaids have a soul, because the aborigines ate these creatures.

Mermaids made it possible for owners of traveling circuses to make good money. Most often, mermaid mummies were displayed for a reasonable fee. Some of them have survived to this day and, as it turned out, were fakes. However, it happened that people were shown live specimens. In 1738, the London Daily Post reported about the capture of a mermaid in the bay near the town of Topsham, Devon. After that it was shown to the public in Exeter, Bristol and Bath. In 1758, a mermaid in a large aquarium was shown in Paris at the fair in Saint-Germain. According to an eyewitness, she was fed bread and fish.

In 1830, the inhabitants of Benbekyula Island in the Hebrides, while collecting algae, saw a strange creature frolicking near the coast. Outwardly, it resembled a little girl with long black hair. White delicate skin and huge breasts caused an unlikely delight among men, they tried to catch the little mermaid, but she turned out to be too agile. Then one of the teenagers threw a stone at her.

The mermaid managed to hide under water, but the stone still overtook her. Two days later, her body was washed to the shore of the lake. Literally the entire population of the island came to see this dead creature. Its upper half almost completely resembled a human, but the lower one ended in a huge fish tail. A strong resemblance to a person prompted the local authorities to order to make a coffin for the deceased and sew a shroud. Soon the most unusual funeral in the world took place - the funeral of a mermaid … Attempts in our time to find her grave ended in vain.

Variety of underwater humanoids

The listing of old reports of encounters with mermaids could be continued, but the scope of the article does not allow this. Let's turn to more recent facts. One of them was published in the collection “XX century: Chronicle of the inexplicable. Year after year". A resident of Riga, Gennady Borovkov, spoke about a sensational meeting with the underwater inhabitants of the Black Sea. “It happened in Anapa. I went down seven or eight meters all the way and hid in anticipation of prey. And suddenly - numb! From the greenish depths, huge creatures floated directly towards me. They are completely white and with human faces, no masks, scuba diving, with large fish tails. The one that was floating in front of the other three saw me, stopped, stared with huge bulging eyes, if human, then poorly distinguishable in glasses. The others swam up to her. And the first waved her hand! Not with a fin, but with a hand, albeit with webbing between the fingers, in my direction! Now everyone began to look at me, not swimming closer than three meters. And suddenly, as if on command, they quickly swam back into the open sea, wiggling only their mighty tails. When they disappeared, I flew out of the water like a cork, got into the motorboat and rushed to the shore."

There are many photographs and videos with mermaids captured on them. More recently, one of the federal channels showed a video filmed with a drone off the coast of California. It depicts not one, but a whole flock of mermaids. These creatures are swimming somewhere, throwing their hands out of the water, like swimmers using the butterfly technique. They have rather long bodies, ending in a fish tail. I don’t know, but it seems to me that it’s difficult and very expensive to fake it. Quite impressive, to be honest!

There are other videos with mermaids that seem very reliable at first glance. However, I would like to recall the video recording made in March 2013. A documentary about underwater exploration was filmed on a submersible diving near Greenland. In the video, a bearded oceanographer sits with his back to the window and tells something. Suddenly, behind his back, a five-fingered hand with webbing between the fingers touches the window from the outside. The operator exclaims in surprise, the bearded man quickly turns around, but the underwater "guest" immediately disappears.

In slow motion video recording, it is possible to make out a large hairless head with huge sunken eye sockets. The impression of this underwater inhabitant is rather creepy, especially since, according to estimates of oceanologists, its dimensions are 4-5 times larger than human ones. They filmed this humanoid at a depth of about 1000 meters. Unfortunately, its lower part escaped the camera: it is not known whether there is a fishtail there. The video was verified for authenticity and relatively recently appeared in the public domain.

The presence of this video, as well as other video and photographic evidence, allows us to conclude that underwater humanoids are distinguished by significant diversity. This applies to their size, the presence or absence of hair on the head, body structure and facial features.
