A Finnish border guard patrolled Lake Inari (Inarijärvi), which borders Russia to the east, as usual last Sunday.
The lake was completely frozen and covered with thick ice, thanks to which the border guard on his snowmobile was able to get to the middle of the lake, when he suddenly froze, seeing an unusual phenomenon.
Before him in the distance could be seen what could be mistaken for a rocky island. A strip of stone stretched across almost the entire horizon.
There are many small islands in Inari, but in this particular place there should not be any islands.
The border guard did not even try to drive up to the "island", but filmed it and posted it on Twitter Lapland Border Patrol.
Many Internet users thought that this is most likely a mirage, which arose due to the low air temperature that fell that day (down to -25 Celsius).

In favor of the mirage, it was stated that no even weak earthquakes in this area have recently occurred and, apparently, no unusual sounds were recorded either. Without these factors, the sudden appearance of such a large rock ridge from under the water was considered doubtful.
